I have been playing PCM 15 up untill now, the main reason for not buying 16 and 17 were the bad reviews about the game being the same as the ones before. Now 18 comes out, it receives about the same reviews as 16 and 17 on the internet and I even see several veteran drop out because Cyanide does a bad job each year.
My question, to which version should I upgrade, if an upgrade would be needed in the first place. I’m still having fun with 15 as well... So, do I go for 18 straight away, buy 16 or 17 or settle with 15 for now?
I was like you, keeping PCM15 which was a fun game and not going for 16 and 17. Reviewers probably haven't 3D raced enough in my opinion, for me as someone who likes that part that's where the improvements are over PCM15, much more exciting and realistic racing. Never perfect, of course, but for me it was worth an upgrade (plus there are general improvements in 15vs18). 15 has better fitness and objectives and there's just a few career mode improvements from 15>18, but I'm happy I made the switch. Pro cyclist mode is also better imo.

Great feedbck guys, exactly the type of feedback I was looking for. I’ve played CM from the early days and enjoyed 15 a lot, but didn’t buy 16 or 17 because of bad reviews. Will go for the 2018 version now I suppose... the basic requirementsfor the PC are more or less the same as 2015 I saw, so I should be able to run it on my decent computer I bought last year.
I have played 07-16 and 18. Having a lot of fun with the pro cyclist mode, managing 1 rider is much easier than a whole team. I say spend the $40 and have a few less beers/coffee for a month.
I've only played 2009 or 2010 (not sure anymore) so far, so I don't know how the new one compares to 2015. But so far I'm having fun with 2018 as the races seem pretty realistic and the A.I. is doing sprints / attacks reasonably well. I remember in the old one I played, it was pretty simple to cheese the A.I. so that you could win stages with any kind of crappy cyclist, in this one I'm having trouble winning stages with quite good riders.
So, for me, it is definately challenging and entertaining. Also played like 10 hours so far and haven't seen a single bug or crash up to this point.
