First of all, I will suggest changing the roles. Climber as main and TT as secondary will be a better choice in my opinion.
I always start at 19-20 years old, so development is more satisfying, and yes, a continental team should be good. Bad team = Bad races where you can get good results.
For winning XP, i suggest getting all the milestones, like breakaways or getting top5 and wins.
Also do your tasks, the ones the leaders tell you to do.
Play it so realistic as you can and you will enjoy it. When your race goal is 25 km leading peloton, do it. When your captian says capture the breakaway.do it. If he says protect me - do it!
Or do you think doing what you want is realistic way ... if you want to progress fast ... edit the database.
Perhaps this is a stupid question but having started a career, one of my first races had the objective of 20km on the front. So I tried to get that out of the way early because it was a fairly hard stage and there was no way my rider was hanging on in the group for long. But despite riding on the front of the peloton as soon as the break had gone for at least 25kms I noticed it only counted for 2km.
So does it not count early in the race or something?

you sound a little bit rude, as i wants to go the easy way.
Thats indeed not my intention.
I was just asking for a good way to start actually

I had the same problem and figure that only the "kms in the front of the group" only counts when it is ordered by the leader of the team during the stage
