Preview:
We have two favorites to take the jersey in China National Road Racing Championship. Shikai and Ji
Beneath those another two medal contenders Wu and Jiao
With outsider Wang, but he needs a lot good fortune to get a podium result.
The Race:
Only a single amateur rider allowed to form the breakaway, he will get some TV time for a while.
Already at the first climb we get a selective group hunting the breakaway, 9 riders in the favourite group. Liu, Wang, Shikai, Chen, Jiao, Wu, Ji, Ji and Ma
But the group does not keep up the pace and most of the peloton re-join at the descent.
As soon as the 2nd climb starts and the race get hard again a chase group is formed, this time 10 riders Wang Ji Shikai Wu Liu Jiao Ma Ji Jiang and Chen
This group close down the breakaway. The pace is getting higher and higher and eventually the group gets smaller, just 3 riders start the last downhill together.
Ji, Shikai and Wu
Starting the last brutal 15km climb they got 24” to Wang and Jiao
The front group ride together for the next 8 km, behind them we got Jiao at 52” and Wang at 1’08”
Shikai attack from 6.8 km, just as the final and hardest part of the climb starts.
From there the fight for gold is over, Shikai very fast constantly extending his lead, behind him Ji and Wu climbing together also increasing the lead over the riders behind.
Shikai start celebration with a lead of 2’51”
Wu bravely follows Ji right up to the sprint, but Ji has more left in the tank and claim silver.

We got two riders likely to compete for the gold medal Wen Hao Li and RR winner Chen Shikai
But also Haijun Ma might surprice today.
Ji, Chen and Ji next in line but unlikely to get into the medal harvest it seems.
The Race:
We got some very serious cross/headwinds today, 61 km/h when the race starts.
Wang first over the line with 1h15’52.
First to set new best is Ji with 1h14’44, in the meantime the winds have calmed down to 47 km/h
Road race winner Shikai with new best 1h11’05, the wind speed is further reduced 44 km/h.
Ma another new best 1h11’44”, just 5” faster.
Final rider on the course today, Li sets another new best 1’h10’58 to take the gold medal in China National ITT Championship, haven’t seen the highest speeds today, but the wind conditions was very hard.
