I'm very much enjoying the new management aspect of the game, the new calendar system seems much more convenient and I'm keen to get into the new transfer setup. The sound-out option and release clauses are great ideas. Can't wait for the first patch and my new PC to arrive though so I can get into playing some actual races properly.
However I've noticed that each rider still has a pre-allocated number of drinks with him in game, did the idea of having riders drop back to team cars to pick up refreshments not make it into the game or did I miss something? |

it was only for the PSP version.

It has never been planned as a PC-feature. It was only for the PSP. |

Anyone interested in some first thoughts?
after an hour and about 4 stages played, here's my take on it, (along with feedback from my brother who's spent the afternoon glued on the game. I'm starting to think he has an addictive personality)
INSTALLATION
Installed. smoothly. no problems, except when it initially told me to reboot. then reboot. then reboot again. minor nuisance really.
first I toyed around with the graphics. the stages crashed every single time, unless I reduced the graphics to the bare minimum due to a memory leak. same story as I had in PCM06.
nonetheless....same solution as in PCM06. run the game in windowed mode and voilá! full graphics and no crash.
then the second obstacle. full graphics and the game CRAWLED. this is odd, I thought...Medieval 2 runs with everything maxxed and this game lags?
after again toying around, shadows are the culprit. there is no intermediate setting. shadows are binary. either have them or don't. no options for medium or even low shadows.
without shadows, the game lags just a tiny bit. only noticeable in the mouse's movement. still annoying, though.
so...no longer crashes, but 5-second freezes about twice every stage. again...annoying.
the game is very much dark. that's obviously a shader problem. tweaking the shaders in a patch will not only make the game lighter in terms of brightness, it'll also definitely make it lighter on the graphics card.
downloaded the fix to make the riders themselves PCM06 color (instead of dark brown), and it works beautifully. looks so much better. now here's hoping the environment gets sorted with the patch.
CAREER MODE
Didn't have much time to try the career mode, but the new interface seems more useful and easy to use. it's, of course, a question of habit. some features are very nice. especially those very small design flaws that made certain small things tedious to do having been fixed.
However, why the heck does the transfer window start at October 15th when there are races after that??? just plain stupid. to combat this they had to move those races a week ahead. idiotic...
Overall, looks to be an improvement.
3D RACES
As for the gameplay, the following points were noticed:
1. if the BLUE bar empties, you're screwed. you have a choice of using one bottle to refill it and thus not get left behind now, but fall short later. or you can let the bar empty. in that case, the heartbeat rises dramatically, and...you're screwed....
2. nice touch the fact that guys with low TT and high acceleration attack less and relay more, compared to high acc/lowTT guys. I liked it when I saw it announced...and now I see it works well.
3. Riders now come together on mountain stages, instead of finishing in 80 separate groups of one or two. this is far more realistic.
4. Cobble races still cause bordures immensely easily over the EXACT TOP of small hills. that's horrible. bah. still hasn't been fixed
5. riding at your own pace now no longer makes your rider blow up that easily. that's good. now after you attack, you don't have to slow down to a crawl to avoid a red moment.
6. form of the day works well and doesn't seem exaggerated at all. except for sprints. it should only have a very marginal effect on them. instead it has a big effect.
7. the sprint trains now form even further backwards. that means a guy who is taking relay at the front of the peloton, without taking part in the sprint trains, stands a good chance of winning as long as he's a half-decent sprinter.
long post. phew. those are my INITIAL thoughts.
now if only I could get the damn editor to work...

wow i'd hate to see your detailed thoughts
it seems good from your initial thoughts, obviously apart from the lagging, crashing, transfer window etc.
now i just have to wait until the game comes to UK |

it's in the graphics options. there's a check box marked "full screen".
just un-check it.
also, if you set your in-game resolution and your desktop's resolution to the same, you pretty much won't notice you're playing in windowed mode (as long as you drag the window to the right place)

I've bought the game today and besides the stats it doesn't seems that bugged, but i think with the new energy think it's almost imposible to win alone a breakaway, the speed decreases dramaticly if it's at 0. |
