Euskaltel - restoring basque honor
Mads_0
As of today, dane Mads Mouritzen took control of the Euskaltel-Euskadi cycling team.
With promises of great results, he undertakes the daunting task of restoring the basque pride to its former glory. Galdeano was outraged that the sponsors would have more faith in a relative newcomer than him and left the team in anger.

A press conference will follow shortly with a short presentation of the main ridders of the team and the teams goals for the season, as agreed upon between the new manager and the sponsors.

What honor? Pfft

so, will you only sign basques, or will ETA have to bomb you?

The goals
We've set the following objectives for the season. I think they're reasonable. And our sponsors have agreed to increase our budget for next year if they are completed. As a little perk, they've promised to loosen up a little on the "only basque riders" policy. Of course, we will try and maintain the spirit of the team and the organisation. But should an ideal signing offer itself, from a sporting perspective, we might go for it.

The main riders

Samuel Sanchez will be our Tour de France captain. On the way to the tour he will be racing his preferred races as his main objectives. Which happen to fit nicely with our season goals. Sammy might have to take a pass on the Vuelta, since his fitness is going to be a nightmare.
img440.imageshack.us/img440/3121/thpcm0005og8.jpg

Mikel Aztarloza will be our Giro d' Italia. We will attempt to tune his fitness to race the Giro and the Tour de France if possible. Mikel will also be, if his form allows it, racing his preferred races, again, apart from the Vuelta Espana.
img184.imageshack.us/img184/4976/thpcm0006if4.jpg

Haimar Zubeldias absolute objective this year will be the Vuelta Espana. Since our 2 other GT captains will probably not be fit, he will have to be in absolutely top condition to challenge for the top spot.

Right guys, do you want smaller pics or is this good?

Silence
A little smaller, please Smile

And is that really PCM08? Frown

Maybe a bit smaller for the poorest screen resolutions (I personally don't mind, it fits perfectly for the right side of the screen). The rest is good. Grin

Good luck.

Landaluze will be an asset in as a helper in the GT's and will be riding hsi own chance in some of the oneday races with small mountains/hills.
img186.imageshack.us/img186/2324/thpcm0008ym5.jpg

Anton will also be gunning for himself in some of the smaller races. Will also be supporting either Astarloza og Zubeldia in their GT races. Which one depends on his fitness.
img181.imageshack.us/img181/4459/thpcm0009bd4.jpg

Egoi Martinez will also be a usefull helper in the mountains. Will try and adapt his training to match his own preferred races and a GT.
img502.imageshack.us/img502/5396/thpcm0010pr6.jpg

Next up is Kolde Fernandez. Has his sights set on the sprints in the Vuelta and possibly the paris-nice and Giro. Again, all depends on his fitness.
img184.imageshack.us/img184/4293/thpcm0012oj2.jpg

Amets Txurruka. Amets' main goal this year is to develop himself into a more complete climber. Will be running a fairly "light" training schedule with focus on improving his skills.
img516.imageshack.us/img516/3860/thpcm0013bl8.jpg

Aitor Galdos is a good tough sprinter. Able to scale some fairly tough hills and sprint for the finish. Will be racing much of the season as he has the perfect profile for stagewins in hilly stages or tough oneday races.
img184.imageshack.us/img184/8443/thpcm0014mm1.jpg

Javier Aramendia. A nice little talent in our ranks here. Lots of opportunities with him. I reckon we'll be trying to develop him during the first season. Could be a competitor next year for small stageraces with light mountains/timetrials.
img186.imageshack.us/img186/3724/thpcm0018ol2.jpg

And that's it for the "main" faces of our team. We've lots of good riders left who can do well when they're in shape. But this is our main core. We've sent the riders of to france for a bit of pre-season training. Next up, Tour down under.

Instead of resizing it, it might have been better to just crop the image instead

Good luck with the Basques!

I like your team choice, good luck!

Just to let you all know, i wont be posting screens from every race. I will sim some of the stuff we have little to no interest in. Our main priority this year will most definately be stageraces. Feel free to suggest other formats for my race reports.

img390.imageshack.us/img390/4192/thpcm0022ia9.jpg

After 40km of racing a 5 man group breaks free. Our own Ruben Perez manages to latch onto the break. Peter Wrölich of Gerolsteiner and Garcia Acosta of Caisse is also with us.
img516.imageshack.us/img516/4933/thpcm0023fq4.jpg

But the peleton aren't having it. Garcia Acosta decides he can do better on his own and leaves the other 4 behind.
img181.imageshack.us/img181/2420/thpcm0027dl4.jpg

He holds on for a good 30km, but the peleton are intent on reeling him in. With 20km to go Garcia Acosta has 50 seconds on the peleton.
img401.imageshack.us/img401/1706/thpcm0032pr9.jpg

And we're in a for a sprint finish. With 8km to go Galparsoro hauls Aitor Galdos to the front of the pack.
img516.imageshack.us/img516/2323/thpcm0033nk8.jpg

Galdos chooses the wheel of Vaitkus and Kemps of Astana. Sentjens and Van Avermaet of Lotto have taken the the left side of the road and it looks like it will be between Galdos, Van Avermaet and Kemps!
img502.imageshack.us/img502/5850/thpcm0037qk2.jpg

Kemps has the lead! But out of nowhere comes Daniele Bennati and he is tearing it up! It looks like Kemps!
img444.imageshack.us/img444/716/thpcm0038zp1.jpg

But Van Avermaet edges Kemps out for 1st, Galdos takes 3rd while Bennati couldn't keep it up and has to settle for 4th.

Good luck with the Basques!

I use Imageshack toolbar for posting. I can just drag 'n' drop the images into the forum interface and it uploads, resizes and links the images... very clever Smile

Anyone have any clues why i can't export results? Nothing happens (looking for the exports in the C:\Documents and Settings\Mads\My Documents\Pro Cycling Manager 2008\Export folder... am i missing something?)

img138.imageshack.us/img138/634/thpcm0043mm7.jpg

An early break of 9 escape, we didn't manage to get anyone into that break.
img138.imageshack.us/img138/6606/thpcm0044mx7.jpg

With 40km to go the pace is stepped up a lot to catch the breakaway. Hinault(Credit Agricole) misjudges his line in a bend and catches a bit of roadrash.
img516.imageshack.us/img516/2121/thpcm0048rx1.jpg

The break is being hauled back in, Knaven(Team Columbia) attempts to keep it going but get's no help from the others and with 30km to go you can just make out the peleton coming over the hill behind them.
img53.imageshack.us/img53/4568/thpcm0049ve9.jpg

And it's all over. The sprinter are getting ready to go now.
img138.imageshack.us/img138/4678/thpcm0050bm2.jpg

Aitor Galdos finds the wheel of Bennati(LIQ) and Reynes(COL) on the left. Vaitkus is attempting to sneak away on the right side. Yellow jersey Van avermaet is nowhere to be seen!
img257.imageshack.us/img257/9631/thpcm0052nm9.jpg

Vaitkus has a gap! Galdos launches himself after him with 1800m to go. And out of nowhere comes Van Avermaet and he's moving fast on the wheel of Nazon(AG2R) and Ongarato(MIL)
img53.imageshack.us/img53/2134/thpcm0054sg8.jpg

Vaitkus gets passed by Van Avermaet with Nazon hot on his heels. Galdos is coming quick now on the left!
img167.imageshack.us/img167/5426/thpcm0056oq1.jpg

But it's Van Avermaet for his 2nd win in 2 stages of the Tour down under. Nazon takes 2nd and Vaitkus manages to hold of Galdos for 3rd.
