Is there a possibility that one of your riders is starting in front of the peloton.
I'm now at stage 9 of de tour de france and I like to get some points for the Polka dot jersey with Gesink.
But everytime I start the stage Gesink is at the back of the peloton.
As soon he is in the front, a break away is already created.
If he is not a threat to the GC (10+ minutes after), you should often be able to attack and close the gap to the breakaway as long as they havent got more than about 3-4 min.
It is a question of timing and a little luck.
(havent got 17 - but expect a tactical thing like this havent changed a lot)

Problem is that thuis stage almost immediately starts with a climb. So you have almost nog change tot het in the Breakaway when you start from the back of the peloton

There is now way to set which riders will start at the front of the peloton and which at the back.
Usually though it does keep Jersey wearing riders near the front, so you're just having some bad luck there. If you really need to start at the front you can quit and reload the stage until you get the desired starting position.
Otherwise the best plan is to use the rest of your team working on the front to control any early attacks and prevent a breakaway going clear.
