The race so far has mainly favoured the cobbles specialists and those who like the flat roads. The punchers finally have their time to shine. But is it too late for them perhaps? The best of the favourites for this stage is de Bie, who is more than seven minutes down in the GC! Among the contenders, van Avermaet is the best puncher along with Boom, and those two will be looking to launch a challenge on Bewley's top spot.

61 km/hr winds greet us on this decisive stage of this race!

Two riders join the early break - pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Sulimov (GC 28th) and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Andriafenomananiaina.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%202.jpg

They are soon joined by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Stoltz, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Arissol, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Vastaranta, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Porte, Ferreira (Porto - Prio)(KOM 2nd, 49 points) and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Jacobs (KOM 3rd, 28 points).

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%203.jpg

A lot of KOM points are available today.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Vastaranta wins the first of those sprints ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Andriafenomananiaina, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Sulimov, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Stoltz and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Arissol.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%204.jpg

Ferreira (Porto - Prio) has been dropped from the break on the climb but recovers later.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Arissol wins the first intermediate sprint. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Porte is 2nd. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Stoltz is 3rd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%205.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Vastaranta wins the second KOM sprint. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Andriafenomananiaina and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Sulimov follow him through.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%206.jpg

Ferreira (Porto - Prio) is dropped again, and recovers, again.

There's a big crash involving pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Schlecter, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Sinkeldam (GC 29th), pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Morizot, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Senechal (GC 24th), pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Laengen, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Bilbao, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Brynjolfsson, Zmorka (Porto - Prio), pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Manninen, Avelino (Porto - Prio), pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Aberasturi, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Bolivar, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Tolleson and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Nurmi.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%207.jpg

Luckily, they can all rejoin the race.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Vastaranta wins the third KOM sprint too. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Andriafenomananiaina is second again followed by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Sulimov, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Porte and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Stotlz. The break's lead is 6'36".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%208.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Jacobs and Ferreira (Porto - Prio) are both dropped this time. This time for good.

The crashed riders make it back to the pack.

The first group of riders have been dropped from the peloton. No big names are here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%209.jpg

Ferreira (Porto - Prio) is caught by the peloton with 83 km to go. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Jacobs is caught 10 km later.

More riders are dropped. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Vanmarcke (GC 26th), pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Stallaert (GC 44th) and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Gastaeur are among those in this group. Almost the entire pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Vesuvio team have fallen back to pace their leaders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Vastaranta wins full points yet again at the next climb. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Andriafenomananiaina, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Porte, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Stoltz and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Sulimov is order behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2011.jpg

The pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Vanmarcke group has made it back.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Kuulpi and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Zepuntke (GC 46th) are among the riders dropped next.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2012.jpg

More and more riders are shed by the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2013.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Daniel (GC 32nd) is among them.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2014.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Arissol, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Stoltz, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Sulimov is the order past the second intermediate sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2015.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Vanmarcke and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Senechal are dropped again!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2016.jpg

And now it's pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Boros (GC 33rd), pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Zhupa (GC 38th) and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Sinkeldam (GC 29th) that follow suit.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2017.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Potts (GC 18th) is among those dropped next.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2018.jpg

Wind speeds are up to past 65 km/hr now!

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Laporte (GC 28th) can't keep up.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2019.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Stallaert is dropped again along with riders like pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Selvaggi and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Weber.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2020.jpg

Up ahead, what's left of the peloton has split. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Lander, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Blythe, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png McCarthy, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Gastaeur, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Vermeltfoort, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Gerts (GC 4th), pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Vakoc, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Bilbao, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gzl.png Furdi and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Coppel are those in the latter group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2021.jpg

And it's pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Vastaranta again. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Stoltz and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Sulimov pick up the remaining points as the break now split too.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2022.jpg

The situation with 18 km to go:

E1 -> pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Vastaranta
E2 (43" ) -> pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Stoltz, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Sulimov
E3 (1'14" ) -> pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Porte
E4 (1'50" ) -> pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Andriafenomananiaina, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Arissol
Peloton (2'8" ) -> Peloton (increased in size to 41). pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Gerts is back.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Arissol and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Andriafenomananiaina are caught with 17 km to go.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Vanspeybrouck (GC 16th) is dropped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2023.jpg

The gap between pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Vastaranta and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Sulimov/pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Stoltz is increasing as they reach the 10 km banner.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2024.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Porte is back in the pack with 8 km to go.

The situation is: E1 --(55" )--> E2 --(2'18" )--> Peloton (41 riders)

6 km. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Boom attacks with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley countering just as the peloton catch pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Stoltz and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Sulimov.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2025.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Boom drops pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley who already looks to be suffering. Are we witnessing the handing over of the race lead here?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2026.jpg

5 km to go. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Vastaranta holds a 45" lead to a charging pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Boom, who is the virtual race leader on the road.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2027.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Kelderman and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Bakelants attack the pack and have nearly caught up to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2028.jpg

3.5 km left. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Boom has caught pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Vastaranta, who wins the final intermediate KOM as well! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Bakelants has dropped pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Kelderman and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley and is the next rider on the road.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2029.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png McCarthy, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Dzamastagic, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png De Bie, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Summerhill, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Gerts, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Thurau, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Avermaet, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Vakoc, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Stoltz, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Polnicky and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Saber form the fourth group on the road. They trail the lead pair by 2'10".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2030.jpg

E5 is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Kristoff, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Howard and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/tsa.png Sulimov. The next group, visible in the background, is the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2031.jpg

2 km to go. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley is actually gapping pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Kelderman! He is not giving up on this without a fight.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2032.jpg

The current situation is:

E1 -> pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Vastaranta, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Boom
E2 (29" ) -> pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Bakelants
E3 (43" ) -> pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Kelderman
E4 (1'4" ) -> pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png McCarthy
E5 (1'17" ) -> pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Dzamastagic, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Avermaet, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png De Bie, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Summerhill, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Gerts, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Thurau
E6 (1'55" ) -> pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Saber, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Vakoc, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Polnicky, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Stoltz

We're at the Flamme Rouge and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Boom has dropped pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Vastaranta. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Bakelants is closing in the latter now. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley has dropped pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Kelderman for good!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2033.jpg

And pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Boom wins! perfectly timed attack from the pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Aegon rider on both the stage and the GC.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2034.jpg

Incredibly, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley has caught back up to those ahead of him with 400 meters to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2035.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Bakelants has enough of a final kick to take 2nd ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2036.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Vastaranta has ridden an amazing stage to be 4th!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2037.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Kelderman holds on to 5th. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png de Bie is 6th. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Summerhill is 7th. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png McCarthy ran out of steam and settles for 8th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2038.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Avermaet might be a little disappointed to finish 10th behind teammate pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Dzamastagic, given the riders who finished ahead of him. The effort from the Stage 4 stage win might just have caught up to him here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2039.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Saber is 11th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2040.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Gerts is 12th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2041.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Thurau caps off a great day for Aegon with 13th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2042.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Polnicky, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Vakoc and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Stoltz ride past the line together next and in that order.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2043.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Howard leads the peloton home.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2044.jpg

Today's winner and new GC leader - pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Lars Boom.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES7%2045.jpg

What a way for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Boom to take the lead in the GC. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley fought till the end, even out-muscling stronger punchers on the final climb but it just wasn't enough. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Avermaet moves up to 3rd as he gains time on pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Gerts and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Kristoff. The latter falls three spots, even behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Summerhill to 7th. Perhaps the ride of the race and one of the best of the season comes from pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vad.png Vastaranta who took 74 KOM points from this stage! That is just 1 short of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Vermeltfoort's tally at the top of that standing. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Andriafenomananiaina is 4th in the KOM race. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley extends his lead a the top of the Points standings. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Boom moves into 6th place in the same. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Gerts is sitting pretty in the U25s.
