We've had three different GC leaders after each stage of this race so far, and with Degenkolb being the current leader, it looks like that trend is likely to continue if this stage goes according to plan. Krostoff in 2nd and Bewley in 3rd look to be the favourites to take up the GC lead at he end of this stage. Degenkolb will need to ride out of his skin to protect his position!

50 km/hr winds greet us at the start-line.

Eight riders get away forming the break of the day.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Declerq and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Vanmarcke are very strong cobbles riders and it is surprising that the pack have let them go. They're both just over seven minutes down in the GC.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Vermeltfoort leads the KOM standings, with Ferreira (Porto - Prio) second. The latter is strong on the cobbles too!

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Vermeltfoort wins the only KOM sprint of the day to extend his lead at the top of that standing. Ferreira (Porto - Prio) is 2nd. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png De Backer is 3rd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES4%203.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Vermeltfoort also wins the first intermediate sprint, ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png De Backer and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Declerq.

The peloton reach the first cobbled section, all together. 70 km to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES4%204.jpg

Lots of riders have been dropped over the first couple of cobbled sections, including stage 3 winner pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png David. No other big names are in trouble so far.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES4%205.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png De Backer, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png Tharuka,pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Vermeltfoort is the order through the second intermediate sprint. Their lead is 1'57".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES4%206.jpg

39 km to go. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Vanmarcke, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png De Backer, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Declerq and Ferreira (Porto - Prio) are what's left at the front of the race. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png Tharuka, in the background, is getting distanced. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Thurau and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Randrianambinina are already caught by the pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES4%207.jpg

The pack hit the next cobbled sector just a kilometer later and there's a split! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Ciolek, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Bakelants, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Gastauer, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Howard, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Boivin, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Rosskopf, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.pngCoppel, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Vakoc, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png McCarthy, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Aberasturi, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Boeckmans,

The situation with the front three groups is as follows with 30 km to go:

E1 -> pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Vanmarcke, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png De Backer, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Declerq, Ferreira (Porto - Prio)

25 km left now. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Senechal and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Fenn are back in the first chase group. So is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Stallaert, who has jumped up a couple of groups in the last 5 km.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb is dropped 3 km later! It looks like his brave ride to protect his jersey has finally come to an end.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES4%2010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Nooytens crashes from the front group, which has swelled in size again. He just missed that rock on the side of the road!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES4%2012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb is back in the front group. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Declerq and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png De Backer have been caught from the break.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb's defiance does not last as he's dropped again with 19 km left. He has no teammates around for support.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES4%2013.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Roelandts
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png De Backer (with still enough energy to catch up from the next group despite having been in the break earlier)

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES4%2016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Averamet attacks agian just as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Senechal makes contact with the lead group. No one has an answer to the Belgian. 12 km to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES4%2017.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES4%2020.jpg

He trailed pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Kristoff and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley by 1'30" and 1'20" respectively.
