The first flat stage and a chance for the sprinters to stretch their legs. Cancellara is in Yellow at the start of the day after Aker comfortably claimed victory on the first stage.

Conditions are tough as we get under way. There's a lot of rain about and >40 km/hr winds are making visibility difficult.

From the early breakaway attempt, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Kittel wins the first KOM climb, ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Roosen and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Rojas.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Kittel and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Roosen is also the order through the first intermediate sprint. Fenn is 3rd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%202.jpg

The breakaway forms with seven riders:

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Kittel
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png Tharuka
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Fenn
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Taubel
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Rojas Gil
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Roosen
Goldstein (Porto - Prio)

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%203.jpg

But they get caught after a few kilometers!

The next break consists of four riders:

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Kochetkov
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Broers
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Taubel
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Kittel

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%205.jpg

This time it sticks.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Hepburn suffers an early puncture but recovers.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Broers wins the second KOM sprint, ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Taubel and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Kittel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%206.jpg

The order is the same through the next KOM point. Their lead is 5'39".

80 km to go now and the break's lead has fallen to 4'44". pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Moser and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Aker are setting the pace in the pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%207.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Broers wins the next intermediate sprint. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Kittel and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Taubel are next.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%208.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Kittel wins intermediate sprint three. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Broers and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Kochetkov are next. The break's lead is down to 2'7".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%209.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Kochetkov, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Broers, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Taubel is the order through the fourth intermediate sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Puma have joined pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Aker and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Moser in setting the pace in the pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2011.jpg

There is a pack split with 18 km to go. No big names are on the wrong side though.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2012.jpg

The break is caught with 14 km to go. In fact, it is an 11 rider group that catches them, and not the whole peloton, who are 35" in arrears.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2013.jpg

The 11 non-break riders in the front group are:

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Boeckmans
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Bagdonas
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao
Avelino (Porto - Prio)
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Howard
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Zabel
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Maes
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Kluge
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Cancellara

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Boeckmans, Avelino (Porto - Prio) and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao take the points from the final intermediate sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2014.jpg

10 km left now. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Kochetkov and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Taubel have been dropped from the front group. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png Baugnies has attacked from the peloton to try to make catch up to the front group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2015.jpg

The Yellow Jersey is in trouble. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Cancellara, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Kittel and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Broers are dropped from the front group. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png Baugnies has almost made the catch. The peloton are 55" behind and not really catching up!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2016.jpg

But pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ayu.png Baugnies is dropped almost as soon as he catches the leaders! Also dropped is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Bagdonas.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2017.jpg

3 km to go. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Maes - pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb - pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Boeckmans - pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao - Avelino (Porto - Prio) - pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Howard - pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley is the train.

Job is done for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Kluge and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Zabel as they drop off. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Iberia has played this to perfection it seems.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2018.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Boeckmans with a gap to the others with 2 km to go. Avelino (Porto - Prio), pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Howard chasing them.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2019.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Cancellara is caught by the pack now.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb leads as we head into the final kilometer. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley is catching up to the leading duo. The rest are fading now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2020.jpg

500 meters. The finish line is visible beyond the late final turn. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Boeckmans has taken the lead and also holds the inside line. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley just hasn't quite managed to close the gap.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2021.jpg

200 meters to go as they take the final turn. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Boeckmans with a clear gap to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2022.jpg

And pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Boeckmans wins! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb holds on for 2nd ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2023.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Howard takes 4th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2024.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao is 5th ahead of Avelino (Porto - Prio).

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2025.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Zabel is 7th. The remaining riders have been caught by the charging pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2026.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Kristoff sprints away from the pack to claim 8th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2027.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Ciolek and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Saber complete the top 10, ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Boivin and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Van Avermaet.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/TONE/TNES2%2028.jpg

There is a report of a crash in the final few hundred meters but no top contender is involved nor is there any retirement.

The game crashed after the finish, so no podium pictures unfortunately.

The top 6 are given the same time even though there was clearly a gap between pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Howard. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Zabel and the peloton lose 1'46".

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/sva.png Boeckmans is the new GC leader with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Degenkolb in 2nd after this stage. The order is the same in the points standings as well. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Bewley moves up to 8th in the GC with the rest of the top 10 still dominated by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Aker and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png eBuddy. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Broers leads the KOM classification. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Iberia take the Team classification lead.
