The 2-days-tour concludes with the circuit race through Montréal: a similar profile like yesterday, with rather a downhill sector close to the finish - but a slightly uphill final few hundred metres.
Roux took the opener in Québec, with van der Hugenhaben as a strong runner-up. It may come down to another sprint from a small leading group or even a bigger peloton. Or will we see some attacks from GC contenders today?
The breakaway group is quickly formed, as four riders go clear from the peloton on the second lap here. It's been a quiet start into the stage, as those have been the first riders trying to go clear:
Semple
Kamzong (GC's 87th, + 3.13)
Koch
Ruijgh
Kamzong as the best placed in the GC, but just like yesterday, the peloton would never allow them to establish a gap much bigger than three minutes.
And just like yesterday, we see two notable crashes in the first half of the race:
Grippo (GC's 12th) hit the turf with still 160km to go..
..and a big crash close to half-time, 118km remaining:
Davison
Othman
Becerra
Diggle
Visconti
Valverde
Still enough time to get back into the peloton, but a few riders struggle - like Grippo in particular. It's also bad news for Xero, who will lose Diggle in that process - he abandons from the race soon after the crash. Just like Visconti.
Goldcorp with a huge workload at the front of the peloton today and the high pace wouldn't give the early escapees any chance to stay clear: with still 43km to go, the breakaway group has been swallowed by the pack! Kamzong and Semple were the last two to be caught.
87 riders left in the peloton with Nzeke as the latest rider to be dropped.
9km remaining.. it's another quiet race today, no attacks from the big guns yet. The pack is down to 55 riders anyway.
Davison/Antón now controlling the pace for Roux, who's well placed at the front of the bunch.
van der Hugenhaben/Hardy right behind him
Vichot
Chaves/Mannion
Rybakov
Bratashcuk
Wyss/Costa
Monfort
Rodriguez Galindo/Boily
5.5km to the finish and we see something like a late attack here:
Vichot accelerates in a tricky downhill corner!
Chaves jumping behind, just like Davison/Roux!
And it's been a short-lived attempt, as Davison pulled the attacking duo back quickly.
With now 3km to go, the situation at the front of the pack has changed then:
Rodriguez Galindo has taken over the pace setting with WCC now looking strong all over the place.
Boily and Simon in a great position right behind the pace maker..
..and that's still the same order with just 1.6km remaining: the pace from Galindo is awesome and he's opening up a gap on the bunch that way!
Rodriguez Galindo
Boily
Simon
Juarez
Armee
Vichot
Koshevoy
Another gap onto the main group then..
..where the GC-leader is still supported by his most reliable domestique today:
Davison
Roux
Hardy
van der Hugenhaben
Lietaer
Mannion
Wyss
Chaves
Schurter
Bratashcuk
Finetto
Monfort
Just 700metres to go for the leading riders and it's still Galindo/Boily ahead of Simon/Juarez!
Vichot thouh is catching up with his strong kick and there's still quite a gap on Davison/Roux and van der Hugenhaben, Chaves, Lietaer, Bratshchuk and Wyss.
Vichot is coming off the corner in the leading position! What a fast sprint he has here. Just 300metres left and he's storming to a nice gap.
Simon and Boily head-to-head with Juarez struggling to make up ground.. WCC's domestiques sit up with still Davison leading his captain Roux onto the short finishing stretch now!
Vichot sprints to a comfortable victory in Montréal! A great demonstration of his fast kick here. After already finishing 3rd yesterday, this may well end up with the GC-victory!
A clear 2nd (but no further time gap rewarded) for Simon ahead of Boily then! Simon played his sprint skills pretty well here and while local favorite Boily missed out on a stage-win, he will at least be happy to gain valuable bonus seconds today.
Juarez a good 4th then..
..while Roux comes in as 5th eventually - with his strong support Davison a good 6th on the stage.
Lietaer 7th ahead of Wyss, Armee and Finetto!
van der Hugenhaben lost some ground to finish 11th, same goes for Chaves (13th) and Bratashcuk (17th), who finishes ahead of Monfort.
Two stage-podiums, the points classification and the GC-win for Vichot! His extraordinary sprint today made him earn a well deserved victory. Surely a big result for his team and Vichot made the best of his opportunities.
Roux and Simon completing an all-french podium. Roux with a stage-win and another Top-5 to finish a still strong runner-up in the GC. Simon definitely with a great result and thanks to his sprint skills, it's surely a deserved result with Monfort (9th) adding another Top-10 for Team Reddit.
van der Hugenhaben 4th ahead of Boily. Solid results with one stage-podium each. Obviously, just like Chaves as 6th in the final GC, those riders must have hoped for a more selective race here. They didn't exactly try to make it happen though. Except of Vichot and Chaves at one point today.
Wyss, Lietaer, the already mentioned Monfort and Bratashcuk completing the Top-10 ahead of Marentes, Pellaud, Davison and Taborre. 27 riders all within 28 seconds or less.
Bratashcuk taking the U25 victory ahead of Pellaud and Altanzul. All on the same time in the GC, Bratashcuk was clearly the most visible/active in the bunch sprint decisions here.
That's it from the two days in Québec and Montréal. Vichot with a great overall victory ahead of Roux. See you again next year.
