A flat stage for the sprinters to enjoy to finish us off in Portugal. The GC is decided barring something dramatic. The sprinters will be hoping their teams can set them up for the last hurrah. The breakaway will have other ideas!

High winds once again as we get started.

Six riders in today's break.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Viennet
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Dees

Afonso (Porto - Prio)

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%202.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Sirironnachai wins the first intermediate sprint ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Dieteren and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Veyhe.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%203.jpg

The pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png SPAR rider also wins the day's only KOM sprint. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Dees is 2nd and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Dieteren is 3rd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%204.jpg

And he wins the second intermediate sprint too! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Dieteren and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pnd.png Dees is the order behind him. Their lead is 6'42". What's left is a long ride to the finish with no further bonifications to pick up.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%205.jpg

75 km to go for the peloton. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/frs.png Ferrero, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Moser, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png eBuddy and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Puma taking turns at the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%206.jpg

The winds speeds have picked up further and gone above 50 km/hr.

And they have now decreased again!

30 km left. The break's lead is down to 1'41".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%207.jpg

Riders have started getting dropped because of the high pace in the pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%208.jpg

There's a crash involving pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gre.png Caldeira and Borges (Porto - Prio) (GC 36th). They do not get back to the pack because of the high speed of the chase.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%209.jpg

15 km left for the stretched out peloton. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/frs.png Ferrero, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Podium Ambition and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Moser doing the bulk of the work at the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2010.jpg

10 km and the break's lead is 56". The peloton has slowed down a little. Is this just recuperation or are they giving up already?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2011.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Veyhe is dropped from the break with 6 km to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Veyhe is caught a kilometer later.

Riders keep losing touch to the pack. No big names involved so far other than the crash-stricken Borges (Porto - Prio).

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2013.jpg

The break is caught with 2.5 km left. Confusion at the front as some lapped riders join the mix at the most inopportune moment!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2014.jpg

Hold that thought! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Dieteren attacks just before getting in search of the victory. The others in the break have been caught.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2015.jpg

1.5 km. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Dieteren still ahead as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Podium Ambition form their train.

It's pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Yates - pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Soupe - pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Podium Ambition with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Hosek on their tail. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Demare is already sprinting.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Dieteren still leads under the red kite. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan is in the middle of his two leadout riders with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Felline on his wheel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2017.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Dieteren gets a gap again as the pack take the final turn. (The pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Vesuvio rider is being lapped).

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2018.jpg

There's a split in the pack at the back. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gzl.png Furdi (GC 23rd) and Reis (Porto - Prio) (GC 13th) are on the wrong side of the split.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2019.jpg

300 meters. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan finally comes up alongside pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Dieteren with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Demare hot on the former's heels. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Felline, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/frs.png Pavarin, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cpl.png Meyer and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/frs.png Modolo are in the second row.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2020.jpg

100 meters to go. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cpl.png Meyer looks to be the fastest finisher. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Dieteren has run out of gas.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2021.jpg

Less than 50 meters and still it's too close to call. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Demare has gained a massive amount of ground.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2022.jpg

But pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan just holds on at the line! He takes the win. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Demare is 2nd, adding to his previous stage win on the third stage.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2023.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/frs.png Modolo finished stronger than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cpl.png Meyer to claim 3rd. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Dieteren's superb push for the win gets him 5th place.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2024.jpg

Coutinho (Porto - Prio) is 6th, followed by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Felline, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Vesely, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/frs.png Pavarin and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Polivoda completing the top 10.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2025.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Gesink is safely across the line.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2026.jpg

Today's winner - pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Caleb Ewan.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2027.jpg

GC winner - pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Robert Gesink.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS11%2028.jpg

No changes at the top of each standing with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Gesink winning the GC and Points classifications and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Teuns winning the KOM. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Herklotz takes home the U25 title and 2nd spot in the GC. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/gzl.png Gazelle is the best team in the race. A good day for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Puma along with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Podium Ambition, the former getting two top 10s and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Demare moving up to 4th in the Points standings. Both pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Ewan and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Dieteren move into the top 10 of that classification. Bad day for Porto - Prio as both Reis (1 position) and Borges (7 positions) lose time and GC positions. After nearly a whole season of waiting, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cpl.png Compal finally have a good result to enjoy.
