Gesink increased his lead at the top of the GC on the last stage. The streak of three consecutive stage wins by the breakaway was also snapped. The only mountain stage, and also the Queen stage of the race could see some shake-up in the standings. Can Herklotz recover some ground on Gesink? He'll need to make a sizable gain because he's sure to lose time on the ITT in the next stage!

53 km/hr winds greet us at the start line. if this keeps up on the slopes, this stage could become a massacre!

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Hivert, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Lowe, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Paulus and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/cpl.png Lane form the early break. None of them have any KOM points so far but with 56 points available today, one of them could very well become the new KOM leader.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PTHC/Portugal/TDPS9%202.jpg

Together, they bridge the gap to the pack.

These eight riders form our break of the day.
