Gesink took back the lead from Yates on the last stage in commanding fashion. Herklotz's gritty ride to second moved him up to the same spot in the GC. Let's see if today's 'easier' stage will also affect the standings.
A four man break forms. The riders are Canty, Van der Ploeg, De Vos and Kasperkiewicz.
Teuns has joined up with the others on the climb.
Canty wins the first intermediate sprint ahead of Van der Ploeg, De Vos, Teuns and Kasperkiewicz.
A lot of riders have already been dropped from the peloton.
Haga and Lundberg join up with the break.
Nerz has been dropped! He is chasing back with Suryadi and Carvalho (Porto - Prio).
More riders are dropped on the second climb.
Teuns wins the second KOM sprint. Lundberg is 2nd and Canty 3rd.
Teuns also wins the first intermediate sprint ahead of Canty and Haga.
Kasperkiewicz and De Vos have been dropped from the break.
Teuns, Lundberg, Canty, Haga, Van der Ploeg is the order at the next KOM point. All riders are on their own at the moment.
Simon Yates has been dropped from the peloton.
Teuns wins the fourth KOM sprint as well. Haga and Lundberg are next.
Kasperkiewicz is caught by the pack before the peak.
Bongiorno is dropped on the climb.
Teuns, Haga, Lundberg is the order at the second intermediate sprint.
45 km to go now. Lundberg is dropped by Haga and Teuns. De Vos and Canty are riding between Lundberg and the peloton, the latter being 2'44" behind the leaders. The peloton is down to 85 riders. Van der Ploeg is back in the peloton.
De Vos and Canty are also caught with 34 km left.
Teuns wins the third intermediate sprint having dropped Haga a couple of kilometers earlier. Haga takes 2nd.
With Lundberg also caught, Lane from the peloton takes the final available point.
20 km to go. Favilli and Egger are dropped.
15 km and the situation is as follows:
E1 -> Teuns
E2 (1'35" ) -> Peloton (Haga has been caught)
Pantano at 5'16"
S. Yates, Ewan at 6'20"
Bongiorno, Jungels at 9'8"
Hofland takes a sip before the final push to catch the break.
8 km to go for Teuns. The gap is down to 1'18". The peloton have 67 riders left.
And now just 4 km remain. The gap to the peloton has increased! Teuns has this wrapped up it seems.
2.5 km and the pack has massively accelerated bringing the gap down to 59". Surely it's too late for the catch. The pack ascends the final uphill before the finish.
800 meters left for Teuns. He played this to perfection as the pack now trail by just 21"!
13 riders have got away from the bunch at the top of the ascent.
From this group, Keinath attacks under the kilometer banner.
The next group is 33" in arrears. Herklotz, Kozhatayev, Boswell, Jo. Herrada, Kononenko, A. Yates, Gesink, Nepomnyachsniy, Kangert, Choi, N. Quintana and Chiarello are in this group.
The peloton are at 1'11".
Keinath's attack is just a little late as Teuns holds on for a great win!
Keinath is 2nd.
Herklotz wins the sprint from the chase group to claim some bonification seconds. Boswell is 4th. Kozhatayev is 5th.
6th onward is Jo. Herrada, Gesink, Nepomnyachsniy, A. Yates, Chiarello, Kangert, Nairo Quintana and Choi.
Furdi leads the peloton home.
Today's winner - Dylan Teuns.
Herklotz closes the gap in both the GC and the Points standings to Gesink. Keinath gains 17" in the GC race, plus the time bonus for second place. He moves above A. Yates and now sits 3rd in the GC. Lundberg is the new KOM leader. Teuns plonks himself into 5th in the Points and 2nd in the KOM standings, respectively. Nerz ends up losing 26 minutes, same as Dowsett!
