After the TT on the last stage turned the GC on it's head, it's time to get back to flat roads for the second and last flat stage of this race. As far as the GC battle is concerned, the winners from the GC were Dekker, Abal, Cattaneo and Haig, which was expected to be fair. The likes of Nibali, Galta and Reis would be satisfied with their outing. Sicard has some work to do to catch up to his rivals. Monsalve, Keinath and Nerz are looking to make up around two minutes already. Among the outsiders for a good performance, Kangert shone in the TT with an 8th place, giving him a good platform to punch above his weight at the business end of the race.

On to the racing for today. It's another windy day which greets the riders, quite similar to the conditions on Stage 1. Evonik and Daktersi will be hoping for a repeat in the result too.

Right away, we have the break of the day with the following riders:
Gebrezgabihier (Project: Africa)
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Oelerich
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Landa

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%202.jpg

They go through the first KOM sprint as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Landa, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Oelerich and Gebrezgabihier (Project: Africa). The gap to the peloton is 6'37".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%203.jpg

Away from our cameras, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mos.png Habtom fell with 110 km to go but recovered to the pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%204.jpg

90 km left. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Nemiroff are controlling the peloton. the gap is down to 5'31".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%205.jpg

We're already at the intermediate sprint point. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Oelerich takes it ahead of Gebrezgabihier (Project: Africa) and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Landa. Their lead is down to 2'31" now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%206.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Puma, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Nemiroff and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Orange set the pace at the front with 25 km to go. The peloton trail by 1'22".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%207.jpg

12 km. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Olereich attacks. With just 22" separating the break and the pack, he doesn't believe sticking with his breakaway companions is the way to survive anymore.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%208.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Carapaz has just had a fall and is fighting to get back to the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Hugo send their domestiques back to pace him. They are not able to get him back unfortunately.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2011.jpg

7 km. The break is caught. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Carapaz is more than 3 minutes down on the pack. His race looks to be ruined early on.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2012.jpg

4 km to go and the trains are forming. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Nemiroff have got the furthest train but their leader pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Vanderbiest is in second position! Not the best leadout here from them! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Van der Sande holding his own beside the Ukranians. Even worse for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Kennaugh, he is ahead of his train completely! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Puma are behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Nemiroff but their train is perfect, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Weber leading out pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Lander leading out pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Ciolek.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2013.jpg

2.5 km. The situation as it stands:

Coutinho (Porto - Prio)

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2014.jpg

It is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Lander going early for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Puma. With pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Ciolek caught behind the pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Nemiroff train, are pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Puma switching to Plan B here. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Vanderbiest and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Van der Sande are in a great position.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2015.jpg

800 meters and past the final turn, here's how things stand:

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Lander
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Saber pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Stauff pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Van der Sande pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Ciolek
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Ulanowski
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Enger
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Kennaugh
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Van der Sanden

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Ciolek has untangled himself craftily.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Ciolek now leads! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Lander is done. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Vanderbiest is now tangled up. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Boivin is coming through strongly.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2017.jpg

300 meters. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Enger and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Kennaugh are fastest through the middle. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Boivin is still maintaining his fast pace.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2018.jpg

200 meters to go. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Boivin is now tiring. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Van der Lijke and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Ulanowski are coming up.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2019.jpg

100 meters left. The positions remain more or less the same but pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Van der Lijke has started to fade.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2020.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Ciolek is the strongest! A perfect sprint from the German, taking a long awaited win. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Puma's 1-2 punch with him and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Lander worked out perfectly. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Enger is 2nd and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Kennaugh 3rd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2021.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Boivin takes 4th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2022.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Ulanowski outperforms his leader to finish 5th, barely ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wha.png Stauff. They are followed by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Van der Lijke, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/jay.png Saber, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Van der Sanden and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Vanderbiest.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2023.jpg

Coutinho (Porto - Prio), pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Van der Sande and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Lander, after his great effort are next with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Carsi and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ebd.png Van Poppel completing the top 15.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/PT/Dauphine/CDLS3%2024.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/pum.png Ciolek takes the win and the lead in the Points classification. There are no major changes in the GC besides pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Carapaz's time loss. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ora.png Kennaugh is up to 2nd in the Points, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Dakteris, the points jersey holder before this stage, dropping to 4th.

Positions 22nd onward are given a 32" deficit to the lead group, with another split in the later positions!
