From here the route travels south through the valleys into Spain, then passing over a climb in the south Pyrénées near the village of Bóixols, before the finish in Lleida on the Catalan Central Depression. The route is categorized as flat, but it will not be that easy for the sprinter teams, only the last 28 km it flat, otherwise a rather undulated route, that said we must expect a mass sprint finish although maybe from a reduced peloton, unless of course a breakaway fools everybody.

The weather is fine from the start, but there are darker clouds in the sky so it may or may not change. There is very little wind.

There is no direct counter, but soon others try to get away and it ends with a 5 rider breakaway.
The others are pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hug.png Barbero, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Bayly, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Declerq and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/itd.png Bagdonas

They don’t even notice the intermediate sprint, when they get to the climb the have got 5’39” to the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/Vuelta/stage13/02.jpg

Coll de Boixols, 15.4 km 4.9% - a very uneven climb with constantly changing slopes.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vsa.png Vesuvio – Accumalux is leading the peloton on the climb, but not fast the distance still growing.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Prades clearly best placed in KoM as 9th with 42 points, opens the sprint from 1.6 km.

As soon as the climbing is done pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Craddock, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Robov and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Guldhammer takes the lead on the peloton starting to bring the gap down.

With 70 km left it is reduced to 4’07”

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/Vuelta/stage13/05.jpg

Nothing much happens over the next 20 km, just that the peloton is slowly getting closer.
We are 50 km from the line, just before the uncategorized climb between the sprints, Alt de Font Llonga 4.4 km 5.5%, distance 3’03”

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/Vuelta/stage13/06.jpg

40 km to the line, distance 2’28”
the pace is high both in the breakaway and in the peloton, we have seen many riders not able to hang on over the top, the most important rider no longer in the peloton is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nem.png Ulanowski, he is 2’47 behind the bunch.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Aegon – Lavazza have withdrawn from the front of the peloton, now we got pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Blikra and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Abal first, and behind them most of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Aker – MOT

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/Vuelta/stage13/09.jpg

When the peloton passes under the 10 km banner the distance is 1’13, this may get close.
6 km to go 1’06, peloton speed is 59 km/h but will it be enough
4.8 km 59” pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Declerq attacks from the breakaway

1.8 km for the sprinters, distance 19”
In the sprinter group pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Jensen with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Stallaert and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Groenewegen at wheel, has been able to open a gap to the pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Aker - MOT train behind them.

1.0 km for the breakaway distance 19”
In the breakaway pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fes.png Bayly is first under the red kite.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/Vuelta/stage13/13.jpg

1.1 km for the sprinters
With an impressive effort from pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Guldhammer he have taken the front with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Enger at wheel, at the right side of them pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/rbc.png Houle. Behind Enger pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Arndt and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Jensen

At the left side behind Enger, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Stallaert with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Groenewegen at wheel.

At front pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Prades has attacked and is riding away from the remaining breakaway riders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/Vuelta/stage13/14.jpg

He is not quite there yet, but it looks good for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Prades, but let’s take a look at the sprinters first.

Just a few hundred meter to the line, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/akm.png Enger slightly in front of the others, but then suddenly he explodes losing all his pace at once.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/Vuelta/stage13/15.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/eus.png Prades wins in Lleida, the 3th breakaway win of this year’s edition

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/aeg.png Groenewegen 2nd, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Arndt 3rd and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Stallaert 4th

This was Groenewegen’s 4th and Arndt’s 2nd podium.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/GTM/Vuelta/stage13/18.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Jensen just manages to hold of the peloton to get in top 10.

The stage does not change a lot in the classifications besides that Dylan Groenewegen moves up from 4th to 2nd in points.

We avoided rain and got another stage where everyone made it to the line, no crash today.
