With two flat stages in the legs, Kreder leads the GC but now could suffer to defend it as 2 hill stages will change the GC a lot.

The top puncheurs are todays favourites and it`s pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ioc.png van der Hugenhaben, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/0r8.png Roux, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/azt.png Chaves and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wcc.png Boily to make the top favourite list.
Other teams though surely here to make their life as hard as possible.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0003.jpg

5 riders in the breakaway:
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bcp.png Halilaj
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/prx.png Maesen
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/vma.png Georgiev
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/teb.png Jim
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrc.png Prado

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0011.jpg

Philips working the most behind with Ruijgh and Battaglin. Who are they working for? GC leader Kreder in the hope to see him survive the hills?
Their puncheurs Wyss and Costa are 2nd tier only with Bardet being their allrounder with skills on longer climbs as well. Good depth but likely missing a top favourite here. That said, Kreder is not that weak on hills neither.

Behind them WCC with Boily covered by Koshevoy. Then also Kreder, Bardet, Bratashcuk, Kratochvila in the first 10 rows with Roux following behind them. Hugenhaben still in the middle of the pack but it`s 40km to the finish anyway and a gap of 1'30 only.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0022.jpg

Bad crash and in the first 10 positions. It`s pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrc.png Prado just in the moment of being caught...pure exhaustment clearly.
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/0r8.png Novardianto and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/csd.png Matsumoto luckily the only to follow him onto the tarmac.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0026.jpg

Jim, Halilaj and Maesen as last riders also getting caught now. 28km to the finish and the big double hill still ahead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0028.jpg

17km and the first and easier now half way up.
Kreder showing himself now in hte first row followed by Chaves.
On other side van der Hugenhaben and Roux in the first lines with Boily just behind as also Bratashcuk, Kratochvila, Khripta, Diggle.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0035.jpg

And it`s actually pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/teb.png Khripta doing the first move. Still on the first climb. Following is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Wyss.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0039.jpg

And with a small gap also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/0r8.png Roux as first big favourite.

Though Azteca`s Weber and Becerra quickly higher the pace not allowing him to get a gap.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0043.jpg

Hence only Khripta and Wyss still have a gap and Azteca is calming down. Instead In-n-Out at the front now with Hardy ahead of van der Hugenhaben.
Then more or less in this order Roux, Schurter, Kratochvila, Kreder, Woods, Armee, Othman, Bratashcuk, Belletti, Hugentobler, Boily, Marcato, Weber, Chaves, Gilbert, Agostini, Rodriguez Galindo, Timmer, Juarez, Tvetcov, Cunego.

So all or most puncheurs in the first 15-20 positions.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0058.jpg

Just when the duo Khripta/Wyss got caught at the start of the Alto de Gaintza (2km, 11,7%) the steepest section of 14% gives pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/0r8.png Roux teh chance to attack. Following immediately is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Wyss, who seems to be on a good day.

Also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/azt.png Chaves and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/teb.png Khripta following.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0061.jpg

The steep section sees Khripta struggling and from behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wcc.png Boily, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Othman and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/csd.png Bratashcuk just behind him now

van der Hugenhaben still behind Hardy but closing the gap just like Schurter.

Then Gilbert, Agostini for Repsol in the front of the next "peloton".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0068.jpg

And the gaps are tiny with also Tvetcov, Cunego, Kratochvila being in the mix.

One rider struggling though: GC leader pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Kreder is slowly going backwards on the steepest bits and might be in danger of losing the jersey today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0074.jpg

Roux, Chaves and Wyss have opened a gap and it`s almost the top now with 7km to go.

Behind Othman and Boily, then Bratashcuk.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0077.jpg

Also Schurter, Hugenhaben and Khripta have now opened a gap.

But more interestingly Bratashcuk has reached teh Chaves/Boily group while Roux is in front solo being the strongest on the uphill.

Now with 6,5km to go it`s going downhill towards the finish line.

In the chasing group then 9 riders:
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrc.png Gilbert
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrc.png Cunego
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrc.png Agostini
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/yor.png Tvetcov
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ioc.png Kratochvila
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ioc.png Hardy
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/san.png Juarez
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Hugentobler
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/wcc.png Rodriguez Galindo

This means Kreder almost guaranteed to lose his jersey now as he got dropped over the top.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0079.jpg

2km and Roux still in front. From behind Chaves trying to close the gap though as he is solo as well now.

Further behind Agostini trying as best Repsol today to get into the Hugenhaben group while Panayotov is with Gilbert/Cunego now and also Godoy and Woods have attacked from the peloton behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/CT/Euskal/mg2017_euskal_03_PCM0081.jpg

But it is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/0r8.png Roux taking the win today. Big one for him which also sees him taking the race lead.

Unfortunately my hard drive was full after this pic and the remaining pics were saved as "empty" 1kb white pictures...luckily just after the finish pic...hence rest in text only.

Chaves in 2nd 27s behind todays winner but in the end not able to keep his small gap. Boily, Bratashcuk, Othman and Wyss with him. Good stage for those as well as the gap behind is bigger.

+1'21 for Hugenhaben and hence rather disappointing for him. Better for Schurter, Khripta and also big chase by Agostini as they are within the same time.

+2'25 then for Gilbert, Cunego, Galindo, Hugentobler, Juarez, Kratochvila... while Kreder is losing 3'14 in the end. Diggle, Nzeke, Wahyudi with him with Haavardsholm/De Marchi (+3'51) also losing big today.
