The month of April brought us our first Grand Tour of the season, the Giro d'Italia. Alongside that we started with the monument of Paris-Roubaix and ended with the Ardennes opener: Amstel Gold. And while the Giro took place, there was the GP Liechtenstein and the PTHC Tour of California.
Moser picked up 334 points in Roubaix with Bewley of course the victor, but Pendleton's came through with a very strong team performance. Senechal 2nd and Fenn 7th, collecting them 318 points. 238 for Evonik, with Aker and Tinkoff as the next best scorers.
Slagter surprised in California, scoring Hugo Boss 275 points in total. But it was Festina who top scored on 312, after Lecuisinier took the penultimate stage and 5th overall, with Coppel winning the final stage. Iberia's strong lineup was not rewarded as they'd have liked, but they are the 3rd best scorer on 214 - ahead of Aegon and Ayubowan.
Taaramae delivered victory and 312 points for Wiesenhof in Liechtenstein, with Pendleton's taking 221 and Vesuvio 183. Sagan bookeneded the month with classic wins for Moser, and Amstel scored them 265. Tinkoff took 214, Strava 164, ahead of Vesuvio, Puma and Evonik all in the 140s.
In total 8067 ranking points were scored in those races, compared to the 9888 that PT teams picked up at the Giro. And 1642 of them went to Hugo Boss, after a dominant performance by Jose Alarcon: GC victory, 2 jerseys and 4 stages. They were followed by the teams of the two other podium riders, Velits and Morton. 960 for Jayco, outscoring Moser on 925.
Individually, the next best scorers were Cattaneo and Monsalve, followed by Bongiorno, Howard, Abal, Groenewegen and König. But the 4th best scoring team were actually eBuddy. Stage performances from Majka, Grosu and Aru making up for a disappointing haul from Brambilla. They picked up 621 points, while Cattaneo led Wiesenhof to 557. Aegon, Veusvio, Ayubowan, Spotify and Gazelle all picked up points in the 400s range.
Hugo Boss clearly are the top scoring team of the month, and they climb up to 2nd - but Moser - Sygic still extend their lead, and move past the 4000 point marker already. They have 900 points over Hugo Boss, and have built up a healthy advantage of 1336 points over main rivals Festina - Dexia, who are now 3rd.
There's some shuffling around below, with Jayco up 4, and Strava down 5 - but Hugo Boss were the only new entry into the Top 10 - at the expense of RBC. eBuddy climb 4 places to be the largest risers in the second half of the table, with both Porto and Tinkoff losing 4 places.
This places Tinkoff into the relegation zone in 20th, only ahead of Nemiroff who are starting to get distanced. Wiesenhof actually had the 3rd strongest month but remain in the bottom 5, as do Vesuvio - with the Vuelta becoming an increasingly key race for them. It all remains very close though, in terms of actual points differences.

Here's an update on the points breakdown by terrains and race categories.
With Moser leading on cobbles and hills, and being 2nd in flat and GT, it's really no surprise to see them in such a commanding overall position at this stage.

It has become very close at the top of the individual standings now. Bewley still leads, and is up to 1591 points, but just 2 behind is Alarcon - having scored 1462 points during the Giro.
The Giro also sees Morton and Velits enter the Top 10, with Ahlstrand and Cattaneo the other scorers in the Top 20. Swift drops to 4th and Bakelandts to 6th, while Van Avermaet and Sagan remain in 3rd and 5th respectively.
Victory in California takes Slagter from 284th to 35th, meanwhile Taaramae enters the rankings in 52nd place.

4th best team I guess it wasn't that bad after all.
It's so close in the bottom half of the rankings we could actually finish top 10 but we might relegate as well.

214 points from relegation looks awful. 10 to 20 race days less than most teams looks promising.
With the horror that was LBL and a probably underwhelming Vuelta looming, things are not looking bright in the immediate future. We really need our PT HC races to go very well.
Thanks for the update SN!

I thought we would have dropped more down this month so positive surprise but the point gap is lesser.
Just Imagine if Lövkvist could have stayed on the bike just 1.5 stage more and Ahlstrand would have perform as he should, that would have been great pts now.
Now we need some overperformance in Vuelta.
Thanks for the update SN! |

Happy that we seem to have stayed in mid table despite having 3 of our worst races this month in the hills an okay Paris Roubaix and a very good effort by Howard and the team for finishing in the Giro making that a more then respectable race now just need Houle to do the same in Veulta and it's all on Phinney to have a decent tour then this could be a very good season
Thanks for the update |

Hey PCT, we are coming back. Either with Pluchkin or a big bag of money to buy a new Cunego.

Our goal was to be 1000 points or less behind Moser at this point. So being almost 1350 points behind is a bit of a letdown.
The season could well end up being decided by the fact that I selected Lecuisinier for Vuelta rather than Giro. I hope not.
Overall I can't really be unhappy with our season so far. Some have underperformed, others have overperformed, but most are as we expected.
Congrats to Moser for an outstanding performance so far.

The Giro was disappointing but the rest of the racing went pretty well to balance it out somewhat. The Vuelta looks a little too competitive and might be a bit of a waste for Dombrowski sadly.
Thanks for the update.

Dat Hugo Boss tally in the Giro!!
We kept scoring mid-table results which has been at least consistent, but apart from Borges stellar appearances we haven't really been able to take advantage from our strengths.
Fortunately for us the lower end of the table keeps very packed as alex pointed out. Unfortunately though, Vesuvio, Nemiroff, Gazelle and Tinkoff will have a big month which will definitely not play in our favour.
Thanks for another cool update, SN!

Ugh what a rotten month for us. Giro was a severe disappointment by Guarnieri and very little scoring action otherwise. Liechtenstein is the anti-strava race per se, Roubaix was okay for having no top cobblers, however particularly Pichon's crash in Cali really cost us some scoring potential that would have been appreciated. Given the important hill stage who knows what would have been possible fo rus there.
In a few weeks time, our solid performances went down the drain. It shows how fast you can fall and how attentive you have to be for every race. Thnakfully AGS was good and the other Ardennes races were a quick answer by Jan. Hopefully we can score some more in the Vuelta with some breakaway luck, who knows.

Giro lifting us to 5th, which is great at this point. I will keep reminding though, that it hasn't been a season full of satisfying results: Bobridge and Durbridge did not shine, Morton crashing in T-A. Guess we could have reached 3000pts already, but okay. The Giro startlist did good things to us, very welcomed points after some low key outings here and then. If Haig delivers some solid GT results now, I feel comfortable about our season. Still a few key races to come and here's hoping, that Bobridge will at least perform well in either Tour of Ukraine or Tasmania.
Thanks for the update!

Obviously super pleased with the giro and our current spot in the standings, thats simply awesome! Alarcon in 2nd wont last long but very cool to be there still at some point.
But I still hope Ponzi can climb a bit more in the standings in his remaigning races.
Moser looks unbeatable atm. Hard to see that change!

The ranking update looks okay but it's worse than it looks on first glance. Last season we were still second in the rankings after the Vuelta with a little gap only to Becherovka. This season we are already only fourth miles behind Moser and it's not looking to get better with the Vuelta upcoming.
Both Skujins and Van Stayen are behind expectations so far. I doubt we can fight for our top 5 goal without all of our leaders catching up to the expected points. Also we've raced far more PTHC races than the average team and we haven't had the success we hoped to get. Lately California has been the most recent example for this.

Still in the top 10 is a positive surprise with the Giro in mind, I must say. The Vuelta will be of huge importance for us and the team rankings. If the team there can score according to the potential, we should be well safe from relegation and maybe even be in it with a fair shot at a top 10 at the end of the season, but if we don't deliver there, we could easily join the relegation battle.
Though, I must admit we are kind of in it already, seeing how close it is from 7th place and all the way down.

And also here the prediction correlation update. Don't take these too seriously as especially in PT those are extremely unlikely to really resemble already the final correlations due to some top riders not having raced a lot.
| #4 | Prediction | | 1. | 0,601 | Marcovdw's OVR Final Ranking | | 2. | 0,487 | Croatia's current feelings | | 3. | 0,486 | Knockout's PT Prediction | | 4. | 0,481 | matt17br | | 5. | 0,440 | Tamijo's Mathestimat | | 6. | 0,425 | SN's Slightly Mathematical PT Preview 2017 | | 7. | 0,389 | Tsmoha's "No formula" PT Preview | | 8. | 0,062 | AbishekLFC's PT Team Rankings Prediction - Co-efficient Based |
The development of the pure OVR predictions shows volatile this still is so i don't even bother with an attempt for an explanation

Correction: (Sorry tsmoha)
I realised that the Giro TTT was scored based on individual positions and normal stage points, rather than TTT scoring.
The net team correction as a result is:
| Jayco - Cobra9 | -82 | | Porto - Prio | 39 | | Aegon - Lavazza | 30 | | Moser - Sygic | 15 | | Pendleton's | 10 | | Spotify - Haglöfs | 5 | | Team Puma - SAP | 5 |
Corrected standings:
| 1 | 1 | | Moser - Sygic | 4129 | | 2 | 2 | | Hugo Boss | 3208 | | 3 | 3 | | Festina - Dexia | 2778 | | 4 | 4 | | Evonik - ELKO | 2676 | | 5 | 6 | | Pendleton's | 2600 | | 6 | 5 | | Jayco - Cobra9 | 2587 | | 7 | 7 | | Aegon - Lavazza | 2360 | | 8 | 8 | | Strava | 2275 | | 9 | 9 | | Aker - MOT | 2256 | | 10 | 10 | | Team Puma - SAP | 2112 | | 11 | 11 | | RBC Pro Cycling | 2084 | | 12 | 12 | | Spotify - Haglöfs | 2062 | | 13 | 13 | | Iberia - Team Degenkolb | 2045 | | 14 | 17 | | Porto - Prio | 1968 | | 15 | 14 | | Gazelle | 1952 | | 16 | 15 | | eBuddy | 1941 | | 17 | 16 | | Ayubowan! | 1939 | | 18 | 18 | | Wiesenhof - Andritz | 1893 | | 19 | 19 | | Vesuvio - Accumalux | 1817 | | 20 | 20 | | Tinkoff Sport Academy | 1762 | | 21 | 21 | | Nemiroff - ABBYY | 1344 | | 22 | 22 | | Project: Africa | 249 |
