Time for the so-called flat stage race to get underway. Opportunities for the sprinters, but they're going to have to work for it.

Plenty of attacks in the first 40km that see a group form, and quickly be chased down. Amongst those to attack, and not make the decisive move were: Logar, Toribito, Major, Lilovski, Oomen, De Vos, Valencia, Svab, Biermans and Laas.

All four qualify for the U25 classification, so there's a clear incentive for all of them today. Win the most time bonuses at the sprints (3-2-1 available), then hold on to the peloton at the finish.

And the sprints were hard fought, with a different winner at each one. (Only Tolhoek didn't win one) Here was the 3rd:

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/lpu.png Moscon won one, and took 2nd at the other two, so he has picked up the most time bonuses here.

And towards the end of the stage, he also proved himself as the strongest in the break. Leading them on in the climbs in final 10km.

He and Van Niekerk were the last to be caught, with 3.5km remaining. There's a sea of green at the front as the peloton sweeps them up, with sprint preparations well underway.

Fablok have pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Stepniak and Mohs, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/lpu.png Van Asbroeck between them and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/fab.png Lavoine.

There's also a Polish lead for Netia, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Franczak, ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Sobota and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Vantomme. With pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Veyhe and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Padun there too, but dropping back.

For Spar, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Guerao has pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Boonratanathanakorn and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ssc.png Suryadi. Haidar Anuawar is a litttle further back, with the other solo sprinters.

Fablok are the fastest at the moment. Aside from Van Asbroeck, the foremost rider from outside the three main teams is another green-jerseyed rider: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/iso.png Kump.

He is following Guerao, with Australian champion pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Nelson looking to move up to follow him.

The other sprinters have picked the Netia train: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/min.png Drapac, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/hrm.png Van der Sande, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/npn.png Serebriakov and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ioc.png Haller. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ino.png Goss is further back, and doesn't seem too interested today.

It's a waiting game now as nobody reacts behind Lavoine, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Sobota is keeping Vantomme in touch. With more ground to make up, Drapac and the other sprinters behind are starting their sprint first - in this slightly uphill sprint.

2nd for Mohs, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/nvo.png Vantomme was fast-finishing but too late, taking 3rd. Top 5 positions for Guerao and Van der Sande, then came Van Asbroeck, Nelson, Drapac, Haller and Serebriakov.

And all of the breakaway did hold on to the peloton, to take up the top 4 spots of the U25 competition: Moscon in 1st. The highest finishing U25 rider on the stage itself was Berger, in 36th.
