Giro del Trentino - Stage 1

Opening day in Trentino and we start with a 19,4km time trial. Except of a uphill section on the first part of the day, it`s a flat day.

Hence cycleYorkshire the big favourite with 3 of the 5-6 top favourites. If the first uphill section through becomes vital it might be Bookwalter being favoured for Statoil as also Kreuziger and Grabovski might be happy then.

On a flat day it`s Stannard, Robert, Tennant (all cycleYorksire) and Hofer (Sauber) having the best chances.

Early on pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/san.png Rosas with the best time and this is ahead of some decent riders already.

Van Zandbeeck +31, Roe +33, Zoidl +46 even show how good his ride was.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/yor.png Stannard next and he clearly lacks the skills on that uphill part. Only 24th at teh first section, 10th then on the second and 3rd in the finish. +28s though. Obviously you need to go fast on the climb but still have the energy for the flat part.
Here apparently the pace uphill was too low, while in other cases the energy wasn`t enough for the whole stage.

Even more impressive to see Rosas still in the lead as his skills not really reflect his time.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ioc.png Kreuziger as said one of those that should like the course but he already lost 14s on the climb, where Salinas leads ahead of Thill and Kamzong. Surprisingly Rosas only +5 and 8th there, hence had a really good run at the later part.

Kreuziger coming in at 7th and +35!

Almost same for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/phc.png Grabovski. A bit better maybe. 12s off on the climb, improving then and coming in as 3rd and 27s off. Still Rosas and Tvetcov in the top2 with easily fastest times!

Though Kossouhorou soon passing Grabovski by 1s for new 3rd. Yet another rider, you wouldn`t have expected that high.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Hofer coming in. Time is okay. But not best. It`s provisional 3rd for him. 9s faster than Stannard usually a good time, today it`s still 19s off the very best and 10s behind Tvetcov.

And also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/yor.png Robert can`t get the win for cycleYorkshire. He comes closer though making it a 2-3 at the moment with Tvetcov. Still 10s slower than Rosas.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/red.png Ma next though again mixes it up. He goes onto the podium in 2nd! 6s off though. He was really fast in the middle sector but then couldn`t gain more afterwards.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/lse.png Bille is a rider you must have on your list clearly as proven last year. And not different today. Coming in 3rd 8s down pushing Yorkshire off the podium and just one of their riders to come...

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spc.png Bookwalter meanwhile was that bad, he didn`t even get TV time. 60th on the climb, 33rd next and 24th in the finish. 44s off! Just wow.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spr.png Ahmad Zamri is a decent rider from Malaysia and is a stage racer light version which are good to have as support riders. Today he shows his talent and goes fast. Very fast. Not fast enough though. Still a rather surprising 2nd. 0s off! Yes, it`s milli and micro seconds he is missing to potentially win todays stage. Rosas still in the lead!

SanCor clearly going crazy already in the background.

After Eastman also had a time around ~20th position it`s pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/yor.png Tennant as potentially best allround time trialist in this race but he also can`t beat the very best and coming in at 8th and +21s.
Hence cycleYorkshire with a good depth at 6, 7, 8, 13 but far from their expectations!

Suaza at +38 and Valls +39 also can`t beat the time and hence Rosas with a huge surprising win ahead of Ahmad Zamri!

Tvetcov at 5th with a good gap now of ~20-30s to the other GC riders while Eastman and Suaza are best of the very best but just seconds ahead of hte next such as Valls, Penasa, Zoidl.

Climbers that need to attack really are e.g. Bennett, who is 1min behind Tvetcov already. Same for Panayotov, Anton, Anacona or even worse Stetina, Mannion, Cunego, Rujano, Bardet, Nieve, Solis, which are even further behind!
