Opening stage in Eritrea and it`s 173 of mainly flat kilometers with some hills on the way and as it`s Eritrea, the climbs are from small bumps to steeper parts.

Silvestre looks best with his big engine.

It took some time until a trio was allowed a gap. Those three are:

Pranata and Veyhe prove to be the stronger on the climbs and it`s Pranata taking the Cat.3 while later takes the Cat.4 only. Hence the Indosat rider in the lead with only one late KoM left today.

6km to go, which means 1km until the final KoM and the break is giving it a great fight. Kenyeres was dropped a bit earlier, while Pranata just now can`t follow and hence it`s Veyhe trying to get at least small points on top to grab the jersey but it`s just 15s left for him and the sprinter teams are fast.

But it`s enough. Just ahead of 2 Euskaltel helpers he goes over the line first and deserves the KoM jersey tomorrow.

Drapac going over a late hill in first positions speaks for itself. Now he also goes early with 1,8km to go. Must feel very strong.

Reinhardt, Haddi, Afewerki the first to follow while Bouhanni struggles just like Guardini as Stepniak is the Fablok in front.

Keukeleire, Santos, Chen, King, Canola and Planckaert all next to Bouhanni.

600m and Drapac slows down. Reinhardt coming fast now but more impressive Haddi as well!

Not far to the line and Haddi could make a huge surprise as Reinhardt can`t beat him. But danger is coming from behind now as King and Afewerki are coming fast as also Chen and Planckaert.

And indeed they pass them just ahead of the line in a high speed finish. Clearly the head wind saw them finishing less exhausted in the last 500m and it`s King taking the win. Not Haddi surprising but still a rather big one.

Afewerki on home ground doing well in 2nd ahead of Haddi. Who had seen this podium today?

Chen and Planckaert next neither expected with Reinhardt in 6th ahead of Kuboki.

Drapac down to 8th still ahead of Keukeleire and Silvestre, who surely need to do better as also Bouhanni 13th or Guardini 16th.
