Now for the climbs to start! Tiago Machado laid down the marker for his race victory here last year, although the gaps were not massive. The hill rating will make many climbers worried, but there's plenty of reason to suspect that mountain stat is actually still the most important attribute today.
We also have our first King of the Mountain points race, and no intermediate sprints. A long empty start, and three riders volunteer to fill the void.

Now with the race lead - not that Kip will hold it - Reddit led the peloton for much of the day. But as the first categorised climb of the day begins, Repsol - Honda have command, and the breakaway are immediately caught.
The first climb may be the lowest rated, category 4, but it does have the longest sustained period of particularly steep roads today, and Repsol and driving hard.
Mexican champion Ignacio Jesus Prado takes the first KoM points. And that is Penasa, Valls and Bennett following him.
And there's a gap! Just 11 remain in the front group, as Repsol push the race forwards.

The gap opens to 2 minutes, with Anacona in the middle chasing solo, and it is looking dangerous. It isn't just Prado and Serrano either, with Valls and Penasa helping out.
But panic eventually sets in from the group behind. Rujano plays a key role, with Pozzovivvo, Battaglin, Bardet, Kebede and Moyano all up there. The gap is closed!
But still plenty of damage has been done, as just 30 remain.

The likes of Solis and Suaza may have began today with some trepidation, but here they are.
Of those seen to be missing, Stetina was simply poorly placed in the peloton as the race split apart. He has Ochoa Quintero and Becerra with him, but trails by 4 minutes. Meanwhile Manfredi decided to wait with Kip. Sauber leader Ahmad Zamri very nearly made it a group of 31, but in the end dropped back to the next group.
With things back together, nobody seems keen to instigate the next move, and the first real attack of the race. Repsol sweep the Top 3 positions of the most lucrative climb of the day, Serrano from Prado and Valls.
Same story on climb 3, with Serrano and Prado both scoring points - but Anton is first here, which means the Mexican champion will take the jersey by 1 point over his teammate.
And the laissez-faire approach to racing continues, a descent follows but there is still chance for attacks before the line - but the group prefer to sprint it. Xero Racing sweep forwards to start the sprint strongly, with Anton looking to lead out Bennett, and Salinas in 5th positon behind Valls and Penasa. Other names at the front are Lemus Davila, Cataldo, Priado, De Marchi, Anacona, Moschella, Burmann, Shaw (who was in the early break let's not forget), Karnulin and Khripta.
The sprint begins, then they all seem to take a pause, before the final turn comes and it's a mad charge to the line now.
Clearly not on a lead-out role, Anton surges clear.
But Cataldo is coming back fast as they lunge for the line.
It's given to Igor Antón!
2nd for Cataldo, while Penasa edges Bennett, De Marchi and Valls for 3rd. The race lead goes to Xero Racing then, but not to their team leader - this could make things interesting for them going forward.
28 finished on the same time in the end, as Repsol's impressive domestiques Prado and Serrano were shelled out in the sprint. Prado will take the KoM jersey but loses his chance to take the U25 lead as well, with just 2 candidates remaining in the group. Both are from Aeropostal, and while Lemus Davila finished further forward today, Pedro Pablo Pereyra will take the jersey.
The race winner will surely come from these 28 lead finishers, with the next group nearly 3 minutes down. And probably from one of 26, as Balkan's Karnulin and Burmann both lost time on Stage 2.
