While waiting for PCM08, I though I would re-install PCM06 - been through a machine upgrade in the meantime.
Trouble is the quality of the graphics. I previously had nVidia 6600, now have nVidia 8800GT.
No matter what I try I can't seem to get the detail on screen that I previously had.
Textures look blurry (road lines, players), LOD changes seem to happen to soon. I've set the best quality that I can via the GUI and my driver settings via control panel are fine for other titles.
Is there anything to be done to improve the quality?

you can set application-specific settings with the control panel. fool around with them. It's gotta be something in those options, because there's nothing that can't be affected by them.
For textures, texture filtering is what you should be looking at. that and even Mipmap detail and Anisotropic filtering can have some effect.
as for LOD distance, that's not something your graphics card can control, it's in the game's processing. I doubt it very much that you could've done anything to change it, you just probably have the false impression that it was better before.
good luck

Thanks issoisso, you may be right about the false-impression!
I've been tweaking via nVidia control panel, with some success. The only remaining issue is that I can't seem to add a profile for PCM2006 - I select the PCM06.EXE but nothing happens, it isn't added - and the new settings don't agree with rFactor!
Still, I suppose I can make an rFactor profile (this does show up) and have the general settings to suit PCM2006.
The new version looks real good - still, not long to go now.

that's a bit strange. still, I wouldn't know, for two reasons:
1. I have an ATI
2. I have everything set on best quality and use that for everything without needing profiles, so if I have FPS trouble in rFactor (rare. only on the Nordschleife with 60 PCCs) I just slightly lower shadow quality in-game and that's that.

That's probably your best shot
