Welcome to South Australia, where we will be witnesses of the first ever edition of Oceanian Road Race during Continental Championships. MGUCI have decided to be really generous and allowed to race all riders from Oceania with professional contracts, some of them even representing their trade team. The main obstacle of the race is going to be Tawonga Hill, which is going to be climbed 3 times in total.
The main favourite is surely Lachlan Morton. His biggest challengers should be Haig, Bennett, Dyball and Lewis.
The break of the day consists of 5 riders, these are:
Lal
Von Hoff
Afoa
Matthews
Ewan
The maximum advantage they were able to get was around 9 minutes.
Nothing was really happening until 40 km to go, when suddenly Morton has decided to attack and was immediately followed by Haig!
Dyball and Featonby managed to bridge the gap to them a while later, but thanfully to the fast pacing of Nelson all riders got back together.
Here starts the last ride up to Tawonga Hill. Von Hoff, Ewan and Matthews still have one minute advantage over the peloton, their breakaway mates from Fiji and Samoa are unable to keep their pace. Peloton still has 74 riders.
And Morton goes again! Dyball, Lewis, And Haig, Dennis, Bennett and Roe are on his wheel.
But nobody really was able to keep up with Morton who already has 40 seconds advantage! In the group behind him are all other attacking riders who go around riders from this day's breakaway.
As Morton is massively increases his lead Dyball and Haig attack from the chasing group and even they are able to open up a big gap.
At the top of the climb, Morton has a huge advantage and it looks like he is going for an easy win. He has 1'30" advantage over...
Haig! He goes away from Dyball in the last few hundred of meters who is around 20' behind Haig.
Another minute behind them there is a group of Roe and Bennett with Dennis trying to keep up with them.
And yet another minute back there is a group of 5: Meyer, Lewis, Von Hoff, Lane and Ewan.
And it is an easy win for Morton!
Haig comes in 2nd, as Dyball rounds up top 3 for Jayco team.
The fight for the best rider of the rest wins Roe as he outsprints Bennett.
Second half of top 10 then goes to Dennis, O'Brien, Bevin, Lowe and then Bewley wins the sprint of a bigger group for 10th place.
