Welcome in Mauritius! Organizators have prepared an unusual and unique route with a huge downhill in the first half of the course. Who knows how that can change outcome of a time trial.
The biggest favourites are Janse van Rensburg, Hussein, Laizer, Hamza and Kiflay.
The first somehow decent time trialist is Sorgho. 42'48" is the time of our first real leader of the day. Uwizeyimana 2 secs slower, but...
Teklehaimanot move into the lead. He is 32 secs faster, and we have a first rider that is able to push the time under 42 minutes (41'56".
Reguigui dissapoints and is 56 secs slower than the leader.
van Zyl is fast as he catches a Kenyan just before the finish line, but in the end it is enough just for provisional 3rd place with 32 secs loss as he narrowly loses the battle with Sorgho by a tiny margin.
Young sensation Zouzou Andriafenomananiaina goes strong and finishes just 12 secs behind the leading time. Great day for young Malagscan.
Meanwhile Ahmouda moves into provisional 3rd, but after a while Craven replaces him on the provisional podium, while Dube and Russom also move into the top 10.
Lagab is marginally faster and Craven and moves into the 3rd place with 24 secs gap to Teklehaimanot.
Jay Thomson arrives and he arrives fast! 41'52" and we have a new leader! 3 secs faster than Eritrean.
Salah Eddine Mraouni only 7th, 33 secs slower than Thomson. Marginally slower than Ahmouda, marginally faster than Dube.
Marvain Tognama Kossouhorou loses almost a minute, as Ahmad Arissol finishes 37 seconds down well outside of the provisional top 10.
Geoffroy Ngandamba moves to provisional 4th places, as he is only narrowly slower than Andriafenomananiaina.
Betilson managers to finish with time 42'02" and that means provisional 3rd place. Nice result for Porto's talented youngster.
Janvier Hadi finishes 22 secs slower than Thomson, provisional 6th.
Lotto Petrus goes to the top of the provisional standings! 41'39" and 12 seconds faster than Thompson. Surely could be enough at least for a medal, great ride from Garmin rider!
Albert Kireva rides fast, but fades a lot before the finish line and that surely costs him a few positions. Provisional 5th place, 25 secs down.
Chtioui finishs with only 1 second slower time than Kireva, decent result for experienced UBS rider.
Kiflay posts only a dissapointing time of 42'20" and will surely finish outside of top 10. Bad day for the biggest Eritrean hope for the medal in this race. Teklahaimanot is still 3rd, but with 4 biggest favourites still on the road, these hopes appear to be really slim at the moment.
However, Faycal Hamza is unable to beat Teklahaimanot's time, finishes 9 secs behind a medal and 25 secs behind currently faster rider Lotto Petrus. Looking good for Namibian fans!
Richard Laningo Laizer - 42'08". Not the greatest day for Tanzanian star and only dissapointing provisional 10th place, narrowly behind Andriafenomananiaina and Ngandamba. The champion from last year surely aimed higher this year as well.
Mujtaba Hussein also unable to improve Petrus' time and is unable to even beat boundary of 42 minutes. 42'00" means provisional 4th place. Likely a little bit disappointing result for his manager.
Reinhardt Janse van Rensburg is the only rider who can steal a surprising win from Lotto Petrus...
... but the biggest favourite of the races ends up without a medal as well! 41'57" means just a 4th place behind Petrus, Thomson and Teklehaimanot. Surely a heartbreaking result for his team and his manager.
