New season, new opportunities

Following a bitter relegation, and a happy promotion a lot has happened for the Wiesenhof - Andritz team. Last season saw a big leap towards a less international team and in the promotion season 16 of 21 riders were from either Germany or Austria, not a bad feat for the team. This season however the main goal is to stay in the PT, and based on that the team believes that there will be a need to sign more international riders.

"We realise that we cannot be sure to stay in the PT by only signing riders from Germany or Austria, we will need to look for talent no matter language or mother nation. We will continue to stay a German/Austrian team, but with a more international look."

While this is quite understandable there has been quite succesfull teams while still keeping to 1 or 2 nations, Tinkoff one of the most known ones.

"The problem with this is that Tinkoff has been able to get a close to monopoly on the best Russian riders, this is impossible for German or Austrian riders, they are wanted bt too many teams. We have been able to get some great ones here, but others has gone to other teams. If we had been able to convince the best of them to come here it could've been possible, but at the moment that just looks like a dream"

Another big question is of course who will leave, and the team will not answer this directely, but claims there will be big changes

"We are in the middle of renewals as we speak, hopefully we will be able to keep most of the riders for the transfer season. However we will not keep our riders at any price, and we expect quite big changes before the season starts. It might be that riders who has been with the team for years will be looking for new teams"

Rumours galore

A lot is happning in the mangame world at the moment, and in the midst of renewals and, getting goals from sponsors and making plans there has been leaking quite a lot of rumours from the Wiesenhof - Andritz camp. General Manager Heine has gone out on his old and for 2 years inactive and claimed that it is fake news, but do we believe him?

First and foremost the rumours claim that the two biggest stars of the team Alexandar Flügel and Yonathan Monsalve could leave the team during the transfer season. Both have been among Wiesenhof's best scorers and most important riders for the last season, so this is a shock for the fan base.

Other riders as well could be leaving the team, another source claims that riders like Romain Zingle, Christoph Mai, Josh Atkins, Ivan Kolalev, Lukas Postlberger and Kevin Predatsch could be out of the team in what looks like a total makeover for the squad following promotion.

On the other hand the team is also ready to splash the cash and get in some serious firepower for the return to PT. Rein Taaramaë and Alexandr Pluchkin supposedly top the shortlist, but it also includes riders like Simone Ponzi, Warren Barguil and Tony Martin. Quite a diverse set of top riders.

We have not been able to recieve any leaks about riders not from disbanding teams, but we are sure that Wiesenhof is going to be active here as well!

We are all ready for a crazy off season

It's Reining!

Never before have a better rider ridden for Wiesenhof-Andritz, it is time to present the one and only Rein Taaramäe!

cdn.media.cyclingnews.com/2012/07/07/2/000_dv1211822_600.jpg

Rein finished 2nd behind Andy Schleck last season, this season the goal is quite easy, he wants to win a GT. If this is Spain, Italy or France that is not decided, but everything will be about winning! How can that be achvieved? Rein will train harder than ever, he will focus on becoming the best climber in the world, while still keeping his prowess for Time Trials. At the same time he will have a really strong support team with both climbers and Time Trialers in Wiesenhof.

Will it be enough? Only time can tell, but Rein and Wiesenhof are ready!

Goals

Paris - Roubaix Top 10
Ruben Zepuntke will be our guy for this race, and we have a good hope that he can achieve this goal with the help from Bolivar and Franzoi. The best help he has ever gotten.

Win Ronde van Vlaanderen
Uhm, yeah. Zepuntke beats Bewley/Summerhill/Avermaet with an awesome sprint at the end of Vlaanderen tow in the race. We all see it happening now

Giro d'Italia Top 3
If we only had a good stage racer that could do well here, someone who could climb, ride the hills and time trial Angry

Tour de Suisse Top 3
See Giro

Team Standings Top 5
The easiest goal!

Changes

Big changes after the promotion for Wiesenhof-Andritz. Winning the PCT is not enough, this season it is time to become and stay as a true Pro Tour team.

The following riders have left the team
Alexandar Flügel
Rick Zabel
Matthis Brändle
Lukas Postlberger
Josh Atkins
Shane Archbold
Romain Zingle
Ivan Kovalev
Yonathan Monsalve

They have all played an important role in the promotion of the team and we wish them good luck for the future

Loaned out:

Christoph Taubel
Kevin Predatsch

Both are lonaed out for a year to another PT team. We wish them good luck and welcome back next season

Loaned in:

Gregor Muhlberger
Milos Borisavljevic
Isaac Bolivar

3 riders loaned in to help the team and get experience this season. Muhlberger is the Austrian Champion while Milos is the Serbian. Bolivar is the anti-typical Colombian riding on cobblestones.

New riders

Rein Taaramäe
Mattia Catteneo
Enrico Franzoi
David Wöhrer
Hermann Pernsteiner
Andreas Stauff
Alex Dowsett

First and foremost we signed new leaders for all terrains except the northern classics. Rein Taaramäe and Mattis Cattaneo will lead the team in the mountains and different stage races. Stauff is the new lead sprinter and Dowsett is the new hilly leader.

In addition we have signed good domeqtiques in Franzoi, Wöhrer and Pernsteiner. We hope the additions will prove like good ones.

After training this gives the current Wiesenhof team

Title fight maybe. Definately not a given though. Cattaneo is yet to prove himself as a PT pointscorer with his low hill stat. Dowsett as the hilly leader could go in any direction, and I guess the same could be said about Zepunkte. Their backup stats are really not great and for Dowsett it could mean a lot of one day results in the region of 15-20th, while Zepunkte could be a rider to finish 6-8th in the cobbles.

Much relies on the shoulder of Taaramäe and his very limited amount of racedays. But I agree that it's definately a new Grand Tour winner. Schleck is imo still better if racing outside the long TT's.

Gratz on making Taaramee just all the more awesome. Pluiplui and Schleck better brace themselves for a hard estonian winter. Cool

Dowsett and Zepunkte arn't that exciting but Cattaneo makes for an awesome second GT rider.

Also cool to see that Muhlberger continues his years of apprencticeships. He was also a loaned in at Strava two years ago.

That is what i call a rebuild! Great job and what a beast Rein is now with training, as SotD said, only Shleck can possibly beat him and that without long TT, i think that stage racing just got a new king sitting on the throne, well done. Sure top5 material here. Smile
I'll be back

knockout
Rein is awesome. Best stage racer in the world, exactly the kind of training I wanted to do as well. Awesome!

Taaramae alone should turn you into a top team but I don't like the other leaders as all of them have bigger flaws. I'd say it's a team fighting for a top 5 but theres a big variance possible due to Taaramae (between crashing out and totally dominating a GT)
