In 3d races I always try to stay in front of the peloton, but most of the time on uphill parts and espacially on narrow roads my riders get stuck behind very slow and exhausted riders with no way to get pass even the movement keys on the keyboard make it worse. They fall back the group/peloton and need a lot of effort to get back.
That also forces me to ride on high efforts around 85! in holding position to come back in front if a rider falls back.
Though in cyanide's defense. It's semi-realistic. The battle for positions is important. However, if you are in front already, it should not be a problem to get blocked
and you think that's bad? It was even worse when we couldn't move our riders back when the 'collision' system first got introduced in older PCM's
remember those days pretty good.
And yes it was getting better with the years, but this year, thats my opinion, the riders doesn't seem to pass the slower riders. They just stay behind them and don't ride by. Even the movement keys making it worse, when you see a gap and want to get right into it the rider doesnt get in you need to ride a bigger bow around the riders to pass.
Positioning in peloton is not the problem I ride in front of the peloton for a lot of years now, but this is the first year where it's really extreme to get blocked of riders, most of the time exhausted pace makers, who are falling behind.
I found this after my leader got a puncture at the start of 7km climb at the end of a stage. It was so hard to get round other riders that I still had half of my yellow bar left at the end of the climb. I ended up losing 1:30 on GC.
They need to find a middle ground. It should not be possible to pass easily on a narrow climb, like for instance RVV and Amstel Gold Race roads. You should be in front at the start of the climb.
But it should not be as it is now. Impossible to pass on wide roads when the peloton is going slow and you have a strong rider.
