hi all. i've been on this site on and off for years but don't post much as I use a mac so am reduced to playing PCM 2009 whenever I fancy a game of PCM.
Anyway - I've just launched a cycling GPS app for iPhone / Apple Watch and am trying to get some willing testers.
The app is essentially about adding a competitive element to your ride. You set a target for a ride (average speed, race against a previous ride as a "ghost", chase down an imaginary breakaway travelling at a speed you set and at a time gap you specify). Realtime time gaps are then shown on the apple watch screen.
The website for the app is https://veloapp.bike for anyone that wants to check it out in more detail.
I'm after some people willing to give the app a try.. both to test it works fine and also to feedback where they think it could be improved.
Ideally I'm looking for people who currently use an apple watch with strava (it uploads rides to strava so you don't lose out on any rides). anyone up for it please send a me a private message with their apple id.
many thanks. |

Any plans to give this a go on Android or the Samsung Smart watch? If so, I will definitely help test this out when available.

@jseadog1 to be honest it depends how well it goes. if there's no interest in the apple version then my (maybe incorrect) assumption is there'd be even less interest in an android wear one. if there is interest then I 100% will though and will be on here looking for testers... so many thanks for the offer! |

One more question regarding the app. Would this technically work for running also? Or would running be too slow for this to register correctly? I would absolutely love to be able to race a ghost of my past self while running and what you are explaining is perfect.
Thanks!

@jseadog1 i've spoken to some runner friends to see if it would be worthwhile doing a running version (i'm not a runner). i'd say the current one would not be appropriate as the "auto-pause" would probably trigger too often as I've tried to code it so it works out when you're slowing down for traffic lights and so on.
sorry for rambling... short answer is no but could easily be adapted to. am surprised such a thing doesn't already exist for running though. |

I have a question... you set your own kilometer and time and then the imaginary breakaway is the average speed right?

@emre99 ok.. so there's 4 ride modes.
1. set an average speed. you get time gaps against where you should be to be at that speed.
2. use a previous ride as a ghost. you get time gaps against where you where on that ride.
3. "Escape" mode. Set an average speed for the "peloton" and also your time gap up at the start. So for example you set target speed as 35km/h and you have a 5 minute gap. Assuming you're travelling under 35km/h you'll see the time gap whittle down as you ride.
4. "Domestique" mode. Reverse of mode 3. Set a speed the "breakaway" is travelling at and a time gap you need to make up.
Probably not explaining it very well! Shout if that doesn't make sense. |
