Belgian National Championships

Welcome to one of the bigger National Championships, Belgium. 46 Riders will take on the Flat course. This makes our big favorites Evonik's Van Stayen, and Netia's Vantomme. Or can Boonen grab fading glory?

Luckily for the viewer, whilst a break goes clear early on it's just two men and not from the larger squads. Lampaert (BUD) and Vandewalle (AEG) are the movers and shakers. So perhaps we'll see a chase from people like Evonik or Lierse.

Yes we do! At 5km to go Evonik has been chasing hard to get the gap down to 50". It's not comfortable for them but it's not a walk away win for the break either.

In fact Vandewalle doesn't like the proximity of the peloton and attacks Lampaert, who has nothing to follow.

1km to go and under the Kite, Vandewalle is hanging on solo. Evonik just seem to have run out of men, but with the sprinters opening their speed Vandewalle isn't assured as champion yet...

Kristof Vandewalle! He dug super deep to hang on and win the Belgian Road Race! Vantomme came very close to him, needing another 100m or so to come past. Van Stayen can't repay his team in 3rd.
