3rd stage, first real day for the GC riders and it might already be the key stage. It`s potentially the hardest with a steep uphill finish on the last 2km.
The top puncheurs need to show their advantage here, the likes of Geschke, Bole, Favilli will need to limit their loss to have chances to bounce back with bonus seconds later on, while some of the prologue riders also climb decent and will try to limit their loss as well
No break until the first Cat.4 and a very high pace. Magnusson as first with a tiny gap. Then Muhlberger out of the peloton for 3 more KoM points moving him up to 27 in total now.
A bit later
Magnusson and
Nommela
are allowed to get a gap of 2-4min.
Later on the Cat.3 Losch joins them. The Löbau rider has 3 points already and now up to 5 and apparently is interested in this jersey.
Though Magnusson-Nommela-Losch is the regular KoM order next.
4 riders of New Balance, then 4 riders of cycleYorkshire. Apparently Taborre and Tiernan-Locke feel good.
Penultimate Cat.3 and Magnusson solo now. He is up to 27 points, which is 2 more than Muhlberger and hence the new KoM leader.
On the way up to the last KoM Magnusson is caught. No more KoM points for him.
And just moments later the first big GC attack. Apparently they don`t want to wait for the final climb.
Tiernan-Locke
Favilli
Yates
Taborre
Kinney
Milan
Geschke
Rodriguez Galindo
Othman
Bole and Canola though work behind and bring them all back.
Yatsevich though in problems now. Only 43 riders remaining in the front group and the Russian GC leader almost dropped. Good for him that in 400m the top is reached.
3,4km left and you can see how steep the final Mur is.
MOL working now. Michely ahead of Favilli.
Then Taborre, Weiss and Yates.
Also Hategeka, Tiernan-Locke, Geschke, Kinney, Canola, Rodriguez Galindo, Nardin and Karagobek in a good position.
Lejman, Othman, Hugentobler, Di Gregorio, Bole, Milan, Gunman, Rocchetti, Planckaert and Montaguti behind those and also still in contention while Tennant/Yatsevich are also around.
Tiernan-Locke goes into the lead. Favilli on the right struggling to keep that pace while the Chiquita duo Weiss/Kinney look good.
Also Yates/Nardin, Geschke, Galindo, Taborre seem to be in form while Bole and Hugentobler are up with the best now.
Flamme Rouge and Tiernan-Locke still goes strong. Many riders struggle to challenge him.
Kinney and Taborre best behind as also Geschke and Galindo.
Yates, Hugentobler and Bole next.
The Brit in front looks unbeatable. And while some riders such as Hugentobler struggle and fade back, others make up ground. Rocchetti for Ticos and most interesting Gunman fighting for the GC lead here! He is 2nd in the GC after the prologue and just 2s down.
Tiernan-Locke definitely the very best today. A big gap behind him. Big win for cycleYorkshire.
Taborre just in 2nd ahead of Kinney. They are 20s behind Tiernan-Locke though.
With them Galindo, Geschke, Rocchetti, Yates, Bole and Gunman! So some "sprinters" avoided a big loss here while also Gunman went stronger than expected. But he misses the GC by 5s as Tiernan-Locke was a lot stronger and is the new leader.
Othman, Favilli and Hugentobler next. All lose 57s here.
Hategeka even at 1'15 alongside Milan and Dahlberg. Not the very best day for MOL with 4 strong options but all faded.
Michely, Nardin, Montaguti and also Tennant at 1'38.
Lejman really weak here. Good for them that Kinney was strong. But in fact he is only 4th best Chiquita rider! He is losing 2'46!
Others around Backaert at 3'09 while Yatsevich is coming in at almost 4min and clearly losing his GC lead.
