A short prologue to begin the race, 3km around the streets of Ajaccio. Who will take the first leaders jersey?

Schomber went quickest early on before the cameras got rolling with a time of 3’57. Sweeck, Rekita and Jiang would all tie him before Jabrayilov surprisingly did a time of 3’55 - such a shock that he was too quick for the cameraman.

The next change of lead would see Prado take over in a time of 3’52. But that wouldn’t last long surely, as Lammertink was on course, one of the favourites for the day...

In fact Lammertink couldn’t beat Prado’s time, finishing 6 seconds down. Orue, Kuroeda and Farantakis would all go quicker than him, but were unable to trouble Prado.

Korsaeth was another of the day’s favourites, but he too could only manage to finish in a time of 3’56 - a disappointing start to the race for him.

Heymes was another with high expectations heading into the race, moving from the Vesuvio team to the Meiji team at the last minute due to late entries. He was hoping to get his GC ambitions off to a strong start, but he too could only manage to finish in 3’56.

Leung was another of the favourites for the day, could he do any better? No, he could only finish in 3’59! Looking good for a shock from Prado here, but some big names still waiting to go.

Edmondson is another name who would be expected to be performing strongly in a prologue such as this, as well as being likely to mix it up in the sprints. But he could only finish in a time of 3’53! Provisional second for the Aussie.

Beyer was another hoping to do well. But once again he couldn’t manage to usurp Prado’s lead - a time of only 3’57 for him.

We were now reaching the last 20 riders or so, with Soren Kragh Andersen setting off - another of the big favourites for today. But he too couldn’t beat Prado’s time, only finishing in 3’56. Could the Mexican be about to pull off a stunning win?

Now Prado seems to be under threat - Kasperkiewicz is flying down the course. However, the Pole can only manage a time of 3’53, jumping into third for now. Big names are still to come though.

Now it’s time for one of the biggest favourites of the day - Ryan Mullen. Surely he’d be the one to take the lead? No! The Irishman can only finish in a time of 3’56. Shocked faces all around, surely Prado can’t win this?

Alexander Cataford is coming through now though, perhaps the only man who would be expected to beat Mullen. And beat Mullen he does! But only by 1 second…

Silvio Herklotz is one of the favourites for the race overall, and he’d hope to start well here. Can he be the one to break Prado’s heart? No, the German wunderkind can only finish in a time of 3’57.

Yuriy Vasyliv would finish in 3’56, and then the big GC favourite Merhawi Kudus in a time of 4’02. A bad start for Kudus, but nothing too serious with his main rivals all within 5 seconds or so.

The last riders on course are Rick Zabel and Sondre Holst Enger. Zabel is no threat, but can the Norwegian steal the win at the death here? He flies through the finish in a time of… 3’53! Fourth place on the day, as Ignacio Jose Prado takes the first Yellow Jersey of the Tour d’Avenir!
