Tour of America

Stage 4/21 Dover - Kingston 159.3 km

The caravan have traveled about 55 km west to Dover, a town in Morris County, New Jersey, for the start of the 4th stage, from here heading north for Kingston, a city in Ulster County, New York.

Another sprinter friendly event, but a bit more rolling that the previous stages.

Two intermediate sprints, in Hamburg after 31.8 km and in Kerhonkson after 125.1 km.

One KoM sprint at High Point State Park, (Kittatinny Mountains), 2.3 km at 6.4%. (cat3), after 53.9 km.

In 2015 the stage was won by Juan Van Heerden
It is very hot, with almost no wind.

List of stage favorites:

The stage starts with a relative steep uncategorized climb, KoM leader pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Egidio and the constantly opportunistic pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kch.png Magnusson attacks.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/TOAmerica/Stage4/1.jpg

They get to the first intermediate sprint after 32 km, with a gap of 1’15. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kch.png Magnusson wins.

A group of sprinters from the peloton compete for the last 2 points, they go to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Selig.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/TOAmerica/Stage4/2.jpg

The breakaway build up the lead, when they start the KoM climb at High Point the gap is 3’47.

With 2 km to the top pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kch.png Magnusson attack trying to shake off pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Egidio, but the latter being clearly the better uphill, is not letting his KoM points vanish.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Egidio wins the sprint over pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kch.png Magnusson, later pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Konwa takes the last two points when the peloton passes the top.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/TOAmerica/Stage4/3.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Schuh is leading the peloton again today, but not as eager as before, maybe realizing that holding the GC will be hard, having just a one seconds lead. The distance is 6’28 when the peloton passes the KoM.

The sprinter teams realize the danger pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Aeropostal, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Porto-Prio and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ers.png Eritel-Sonatrach joins the pursuit.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/TOAmerica/Stage4/4.jpg

34 km to the line, the breakaway reach the last sprint. The gab is down to 1’36.

Again pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Egidio wins the sprint, and again sprinters from the peloton fight for the last 2 points, they go to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Coutinho.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/TOAmerica/Stage4/5.jpg

30 km 1’38
20 km 1’25 - pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Porto - Prio now leads (55 km/h)
10 km ‘58” - pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Aeropostal leads (56 km/h)
6.5 kmpcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kch.png Magnusson attack, trying to blow new life into the breakaway. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Egidio does not react.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/TOAmerica/Stage4/6.jpg

3.5 km ‘28”
With the breakaway within reach, suddenly pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Dall'Antonia with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Cardoso and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Granjel Cabrera shoots out from the peloton with 61 km/h.

Behind Granjel Cabrera, alert riders pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Coutinho and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Selig soon joins the train. Also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wcc.png Jones, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Mansilla and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vuk.png Ulanowski tries to hang on.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ers.png Van Heerden not looking good, caught way to far back in a lot of traffic.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/TOAmerica/Stage4/7.jpg

2.0 km
The breakaway is over, the riders will be facing two sharp curves, first left then right.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Selig is opening the sprint, attempting to get the perfect line in the curve, behind him pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Dall'Antonia seems ready to bail out, opening a passages for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Cardoso and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Granjel Cabrera to pass.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Coutinho and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wcc.png Jones, on each side of Cardoso.

Also in the first group within a few meters pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Mansilla, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vuk.png Ulanowski and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/esc.png Benfatto.

A bit further back pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cpl.png Sutton, another 2-3 meters back pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/fnz.png Giacoppo.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/TOAmerica/Stage4/8.jpg

1.0 km (no kite due to the dangerous curve)

6 riders almost on line, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Selig, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wcc.png Jones pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Coutinho pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Cardoso pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vuk.png Ulanowski and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/esc.png Benfatto

About 3 meters behind them to the right pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Mansilla.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Granjel Cabrera had a bad curve losing Cardoso’s wheel now hanging 4-5 meters after.
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cpl.png Sutton even further back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/TOAmerica/Stage4/9.jpg

500 m

The situation is almost the same, besides the fact that both pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Mansilla and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Granjel Cabrera have closed the gap, now 9 riders almost on line, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Granjel Cabrera now suddently a little bit ahead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/TOAmerica/Stage4/10.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Granjel Cabrera is so much faster than anyone, he can let go of the bike and raise his arms before he reach the line. Taking the stage win and the leader jersey.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/TOAmerica/Stage4/11.jpg

6 riders are in a close sprint for 2nd, won by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Coutinho. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Mansilla takes the last podium in front of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Selig and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vuk.png Ulanowski rounding of top 5.
