Herald Sun Tour - Stage 3
roturn
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Herald/mg2016_herald_03_PCM0001.jpg

It this the GC deciding stage? 17km time trial are surely long enough to deliver bigger time gaps than bonus seconds could reward.

But if a sprinter can somehow reduce his loss and then still gain a bit. they might be in for a high GC.

Stage and GC wise though Yatsevich is the big favourite followed by Stannard and Tennant but also Robert, Steensen, Sebright and PCT team Spotify is surely hoping for a top result.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Herald/mg2016_herald_03_PCM0005.jpg

From those riders that already lost time on the previous 2 stages, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Griffith takes the best result. It won`t deliver him a good GC, but maybe a stage win?

27s faster than Tzortzsakis, Jacobsen and Stoenchev already more than 30s down.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Herald/mg2016_herald_03_PCM0007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Robert totally disappoints here. Clearly he suffers from the 3rd day already but this won`t give him a GC podium.
29s down on Griffith and only 3rd for him.

Zoidl 9th and Thill 6th also won`t get a top result.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Herald/mg2016_herald_03_PCM0014.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spb.png Sebright had an awful first half being only 11th and 27s down already. He then recovered though and gained 2s back being 2nd in the finish! This should see him taking a good GC spot in the end.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Herald/mg2016_herald_03_PCM0016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spy.png Wetterhall is only Spotify`s 3rd option for the day but he must have a very good form as he beats Griffith at both points and will sit down on the hot seat now! 15s faster and now the top10 is already within 55s, which means huge struggle for all sprinters, that were hoping to be in the ~40s range with 2 sprint stages remaining.

Petrus, Walker, surprisingly Drucker, Puerta Zapata all take the 3rd and 4th spot one after the other and hence will do decent in the GC but not on the top spot.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Herald/mg2016_herald_03_PCM0023.jpg

Another Spotify rider though on podium course in pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spy.png Stenersen. Still not their no.1 option but being 2nd and 7s down only to his team mate Wetterhall, the team is looking very well at the moment.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Herald/mg2016_herald_03_PCM0025.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spb.png Yatsevich though is the big favourite and he was 3s faster at half time. This is close! A lot closer than expected!
Wetterhall actually was faster on the 2nd half but it`s enough for the Russian. -2s and hence a new best time! Also the provisional GC lead!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Herald/mg2016_herald_03_PCM0029.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spy.png Johansson is Spotify`s strongest of their time trial trio and seeing their very good form on todays stage, he might even go past Yatsevich.
But to make it short. No. Not his ride. 30s down, which only is the 7th spot!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Herald/mg2016_herald_03_PCM0031.jpg

Now for the Brits. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas_gbr.png Stannard first and he is doing decent but not too well. In comparison to Yatsevich a normal time, in comparison to the Spotify riders not really.
Only 5th for him, 23s down!

Steensen next with similar struggle. 11th and 40s down!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Herald/mg2016_herald_03_PCM0034.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Tennant is the other Brit. A nice close challenge between those two and same today. Actually they go equally fast but the Isostar rider goes micro seconds quicker hence taking 5th.

Navardauskas as 10th of the day the last time trialist and as no sprinter even came close to be in attacking range, splits will be needed for a sprinter GC attack!
Right now the time trialists dominate the GC with Yatsevich and Spotify being the clear winners. Also Isostar at least decent with two in the top10 and actually Drucker being one of the only "sprinters" within the 40s range. But as the team seems to go for Mezgec, this might become their problem here.
