Stage 1 already sees the big mountain stage here. Can local hero Denifl take the leaders jersey in Kühtai?
Pretty early the breakaway finds itself:

The last climb before the way up to Kühtai arises is done. And the nepalese champion Chhetri has caught the breakaway himself:
Now 21.5 kilometers of climbing, with an average gradient of 6,5% and an altitude of 2015m. Wow!
For 10 kilometers though absolutely nothing happens. 60 riders left in the pack that is lead by Preidler, Gilanipoor and Lowe.
5 kilometers. Brändle to the front, but no riders dropped since 10k. Absolutely no action taken - so far it's a very disappointing climb.
3 kms
We are inside the barriers but still absolutely no action. When will the pace increase? 2 kilometers and still no action. With 1.2 no action still, but the pace increased over the KOM. 25 riders together still over the mountain sprint.
Flamme Rouge
We will have a mass sprint here. Who'd have guessed that? Climbers points for the HC mountain sprint can be seen in the results. Monsalve though in the polka dot jersey tomorrow winning this.
500 meters
Lowe leading it out for Dekker. Still in contension are
Denifl
Martin
Monsalve
Contador
Talansky
Brajkovic
Though in the sprint it's more and more a battle between Dekker and the slightly faster Martin. On the line though it's...
.. Thomas Dekker with a win that honestly nobody really deserved by the passive racing. But his team worked well, so he might be the best possible winner. Second in a close finish for Dan Martin, then it's Denifl rounding off the podium. With Contador and
Monsalve following a day where the projected Top5 finished according to that.
But this race will mostly benefit the strong chrono guys that stayed at the front. Hopefully the next stage will be ridden more aggressive, otherwise it might become an easy one for leaders jersey Dekker.
