Deutschland Tour

Stage 3/8 Eilsleben - Bad Langensalza 194.7 km

The Tour has moved about 150 km south to Eilsleben, in the center of northern Gremany between Berlin and Hannover in Bundesland Sachsen-Anhalt. Heading further south for Bad Langensalza in Bundesland Thüringen.

The stage is considered flat due to the finish, but the route is a lot more rolling than the previous days.

Two intermediate sprints, one in Halberstadt after 39 km and one in Duderstadt 61 km before the finish.
Two KoM sprints, the hardest Hartenberg (11km/3,3%) after 64 km (cat3) and Dün (cat4) with 39 km mostly downhill to the finish.

It is sunny, but windier today, head/side wind at 15-22 km/h.

List of stage favorites:

The peloton won’t let anyone go this morning, there are no lags in attacking, but everything are brought back. The peloton reach the first sprint together.

The Pokerstars train makes a move for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Degenkolb and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Swift manages to grab his wheel.

On the TV cameras it sure looks like pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Swift takes it, but the officials hand it to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Degenkolb. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Sieberg takes the last 2 points.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Deutschland/Stage3/1.jpg

Another 10 km and finally a breakaway establish itself, at first it is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gzl.png Senyenov, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bud.png Martens and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mus.png Quevedo, a little later also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Olsson join the group. They reach the KoM sprint at Hartenberg with 2’45.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gzl.png Senyenov attacks from 1.6 km, but he burns up 300-400 m before the top, instead it is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bud.png Martens in front of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Olsson and then pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mus.png Quevedo

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Deutschland/Stage3/2.jpg

The front of the peloton is rather flat as no team likes to take responsibility after the top of Hartenberg and the distance to the breakaway increase rapidly to more than 6 minutes.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Deutschland/Stage3/3-1.jpg

With 90 km to the line pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Pokerstars decides to take action, with no help from any other teams they increase the speed starting to close the gap.

In the breakaway pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mus.png Quevedo has a puncture, having to close a 52 sec. gab to get back, in a nasty 21 km/h head/side wind.

The breakaway reach the last intermediate sprint with 2’50. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gzl.png Senyenov wins the sprint in front of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bud.png Martens and then pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Olsson

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Deutschland/Stage3/4.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Pokerstars still leading the peloton seems content with holding the distance at about 2’30 which is also what it is when the breakaway reach the last KoM sprint.

The climb is very short but with a max of more than 7% on the last part, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gzl.png Senyenov attacks on the final 900 m and clearly win it in front of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Olsson and then pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bud.png Martens

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Deutschland/Stage3/5.jpg

After the top the actual pursuit begins now pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Pokerstars, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/evo.png Evonik and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Aegon join forces.

With 14 km to the line pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bud.png Martens makes a last desperate attack, but soon it is all over.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Deutschland/Stage3/6.jpg

Between 5-4 km left, there is a series of crashes, a total of 14 riders are down on the tarmac.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbc.png Elissonde, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bud.png Lammertink, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kdd.png Thomson, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Bol, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vsa.png Aru, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pnd.png Edmondson, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Kreder, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gzl.png Hofland, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pnd.png Pereyra, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Manfredi, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Fumeaux and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Vichot, continues with bruses.

But pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pnd_cmr.png Ngock Ngue and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tsa.png Chernetskiy are permanently out of the race

After the crashes there is chaos, with just 1.9 km left, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Pokerstars is leading fronted by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Sieberg, but no organized trains are up.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Deutschland/Stage3/7.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbh.png Holloway realize that most of the favorites are sitting behind the front without a train, he launches his sprint from 1.6 km, only pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Goss sits in a position to counter.

Under the red kit:
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbh.png Holloway and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Goss side my side, 5-6 meters further back pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/evo.png Dakteris and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Mohs. At the right side pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Sieberg but he was leading the chase and is no longer fast. Another 7-8 meter back all the other favorites trying to get in position.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Deutschland/Stage3/8.jpg

600 meter to the line:

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbh.png Holloway has an edge on pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Goss but it is just 1/2 a wheel.

The distance down to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/evo.png Dakteris and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Mohs. Is still the same.

At the left side of the road (seen from the rider) pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Tzortzakis is getting closer now just 5-6 meters behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/evo.png Dakteris

At the right side pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Degenkolb in the yellow jersey is visible, but at least 14-15 meters behind the front. A few meters further back a larger group of riders

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Deutschland/Stage3/9.jpg

300 meter to the line:

Now pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Goss clearly keeps a higher pace than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbh.png Holloway and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/evo.png Dakteris is coming fast from behind threatning for 2nd.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Tzortzakis and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Degenkolb is moving in on pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Mohs who is dropping pace, but they are not getting any closer to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Goss.

Further back in front of the lager group we can see pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vsa.png Van der Lijke, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Kump and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/evo.png Van Stayen.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Deutschland/Stage3/10.jpg

Quite a surprise win from pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Goss in Bad Langensalza.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbh.png Holloway burn up on the last 200 meter and has to settle with 3rd after pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/evo.png Dakteris. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Tzortzakis 4th and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Degenkolb 5th, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vsa.png Van der Lijke wins the sprint in the lager group for 6th

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Mohs exploded and has to settle with 8th,
