Yep, another one removed from the Giro startlist. Ariel Maximiliano Richeze has been caught on anabolic steriods (maybe?), according to WVcycling.com

Brilliant, i hate that guy. He's the worst sprinter in the existance of sprinting. Can't keep a straight line even when hes at the front. Dangerous.

Friday 9th May 2008 - By Stephen Farrand in Palermo
Maximiliano Richeze of the CSF Group team will not start the Giro d'Italia after traces of stanazol were found in a urine sample taken after he won the last stage of the Circuit Cycliste Sarthe in France on April 11.
As the teams got ready for Saturday's opening team time trial around Palermo, Richeze's team manager Bruno Reverberi came into the race headquarters and embarrassingly announced that his CSF Group team would start with just eight riders.
“I've been told by the UCI that traces of the same steroid Ben Johnson was caught for, I think it's called stanazol, was found in a urine sample given by Max Richeze after he won the last stage of the Sarthe race,” Reverberi said.
“I'm really sorry that it has happened just before the start of the Giro d'Italia because we try and run a clean team.”
“Richeze has already been sent home and now its up to him to ask for the counter-analysis. Because it has happened so close to the start of the Giro d'Italia it means we will start the Giro with just eight riders.”
A total of 197 riders will now line-up for the team time trial.
That's a wrap. thanks for playing.

Steroids, testosterone, amphetamines, etc. All those riders caught lately have been using such things. The kind of stuff you get on your own and use on your own, the things that can easily be found.
It's a good thing those riders are caught, still it's crap and cheap doping compared to what is used by the big names. Few big names have been caught this season. Last season there was Vino & Kash, but that's all.
I trust blood passport and police raids more, or even medias when a federation is trying to save one of its favourites' ass. |

The whole issue here is that, contrary to what a lot of people think, the criteria for a positive test is unbelievably strict.
That means two things
1. The people at the labs know for the most part exactly who is doping and who isn't, but that can't be considered a positive test because otherwise, very rarely, an innocent rider would be "caught"
2. When a test comes back positive, you can be damn sure, 100% that the rider is cheating. There are no two ways about it. The criteria is unbelievably strict.
Whenever someone does test positive, if it's not a big name, no one cares , but sadly when a big-name rider is caught, immediately most people of that same nationality cry out that "it's definitely an error in the test". The same people that have no qualms whatsoever about pointing the finger at a rider of a different nationality or who isn't one of their favorites.
For those interested in the current state of doping, read this. It's from last November:
The director of the WADA-accredited Swiss Laboratory for Analysis of Doping in Lausanne, Switzerland, has told Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws that he believed there was still widespread doping in the Tour de France this year. "47 out of 189 riders raced on blood transfusions or EPO," Martial Saugy alleged. "We have been able to show this from the samples taken at the health controls."
Still, Saugy added that these test results did not fulfil the requirements to be declared as 'positive'. "It is appalling, but we find so many test results that undoubtedly point to manipulation," he continued. "But there is a big difference between a suspicious sample and one that can be declared positive."
Saugy also found indications for the use of testosterone and growth hormone. "Especially the latter product is very popular at the moment," he added. "As soon as there will be a water-proof test for growth hormone, it will show that 80 percent [of the peloton] is taking it. I am disillusioned: the use of growth hormone is as bad as was the use of EPO and blood doping in the 90's."

Nope. Really not. Tour of Langkawi. Guy who caused a mass pile up just as Alberto Loddo was going to go around him after almost already been brought down by him, when whooooo over the road sways Richeze into Loddo, taking him and the guy behind him down.
Oh wait... maybe i'm thinking of another Richeze? Are there two on that team?

That was the younger brother Mauro
Argentinian sprinters seem to come in brotherly pairs.
The Haedos, the Richezes, the Borrajos...
And Brown is in my mind the single biggest asshole. he's injured so many people and he always acts righteous and justified.

Does this mean Matti Breschel is technically the winner of Stage 18 of last years Giro?
He was 3rd behind Petacchi and Richeze.

Actually, there are FOUR! Richeze's in cycling:
Roberto (the older one, riding for Katay)
Max and Mauro
Adrián (the younger one, currently at Filmop, u23 squad from Tinkoff) |

I knew about Roberto but didn't know he was related to the others. And Adrián is news to me (I don't follow youth cycling at all). Four
Well, only three now, I guess

Don't worry, disaster averted - he's failed test was only recent therefore only results past that date are invalid

oh yeah, cav will definitely wrap up the overall this year. He is a great climber, he just wanted a go at sprinting. Surely you could see that from the PCMdaily April 1st DB. Wegelius will take the points jersey, Wiggins the mountains jersey and Millar, by an amazing feat, will steal the young riders jersey on the Mortirolo

He was 3rd behind Petacchi and Richeze. Richeze got caught in this year's Circuit de la Sarthe, so no. |
