Stage 1: flat, 144.2 km, Ugine - Albertville

A lot of mountain sprints on offer today, who will be the first leader of the different jerseys. Also a very interesting fact that the stage is pretty short, that might favor te breakaway today. Other wise we might see a hard battle for a victory that every pure sprinter here desperately needs to make his appearence here asuccessful one: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbh.png Cavendish vs. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Tzortzakis vs. the rest?

The first sprint belongs to guys who are trying to attack:

Sprint

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met.png Tanovitchii4
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Villella2

But then a group of 3 goes clearly pretty soon afterwards:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Dauphine/dau1.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Vichot
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pnd.png Senechal
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Villella

They'll surely have a long day at the fron together grabbing lots of points for both sprinters and KOM classification today.

Cat.4
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Villella5
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Vichot3
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pnd.png Senechal1

In the peloton the GC teams control the pace for now.

Cat.3
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Villella6
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Vichot4

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Vichot3
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pnd.png Senechal1

100 km - 8'00

The breakway is quite dangerous looking at the strong puncheurs in there. As a result the sprinter teams take over, for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbh.png Cavendish and
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Goss in first line.

Cat.3
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Villella6

Cat.3
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Villella6
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Vichot4
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pnd.png Senechal2

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Villella is dominating stuff in the sprints, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pnd.png Senechal suffers a lot

50 km - 3'30
40 km - 2'40

Sprint
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Villella6
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Vichot4
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pnd.png Senechal2

Over a hill pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pnd.png Senechal even has to let go and won't be able to rejoin his former companions. He still takes two points at the penultimate KOM sprint, where pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Villella once again beats pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Vichot.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Dauphine/dau2.jpg

But with 30 kilometers to go the race is over for the frenchman, you see the influence of the hill stat here...and this is even the easiest stage of this year!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Dauphine/dau3.jpg

30 km - 2'20
25 km - 1'30
20 km - 1'10

Meanwhile pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Ford won't wear yellow even if he wins the TT, he is dropped in a group with some interesting names:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Dauphine/dau4.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tsa.png Zakarin
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tsa.png Porsev
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbc.png Pichon
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbc.png Young
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Penasa

More riders that already gone backwards are:

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mus.png Bookwalter
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbc.png Pantano Gómez
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/evo.png Koch
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pnd.png Kohl
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tsa.png Ignatenko
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ers.png Reguigui
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Bar

Now back to the front:

15 km - 1'20

And...

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Dauphine/dau5.jpg

...pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Villella has dropped his companion over the last KOM sprint. Now he has to hold on on the flat and downhill onto the finishing line.

Cat.3
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/aeg.png Villella6
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Vichot4
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Feng2

The three main sprinters teams...

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Dauphine/dau6.jpg

...(RedBull, Gen-I, Jayco) though initiating a wild chase and take in pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Vichot in a wild chase with slightly more than 10k to go. The italian is already in sight though yet they are nearly a minute in behind.

7.5 km - '40

This looks like a late heartbrea. No trains are able to form themselves so far though.

5 kilometers to go!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Dauphine/dau7.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Feng still on a run with an amazing turn eating deeply into the advantage of Villela, who looks to be cooked.

And there it is. With 4k to go we have a stunning train for the Gen-I team...

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Dauphine/dau8.jpg

...catching the brave Italian. And it's confirmed that they are riding for the Greek today!

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Haller
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Coquardpcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met_rom.png Grosu
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Tzortzakispcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Goss
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ers.png Impey
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bud.png Te Brakepcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbh.png Cavendish
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bpv.png Boeckmans
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bec.png Vesely
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bud.png Van Poppel
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vsa.png Van der Lijke

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met_rom.png Grosu and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Goss look a little bit lost, while PCT star pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ers.png Impey currently holds the perfect wheel.

2 kilometers!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Dauphine/dau9.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Haller with an astonishing leadout for 2 kilometers, while the Romanian has been in the wind all the time. Will he lead the aussie out today?

Flamme Rouge!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Dauphine/dau10.jpg

The austrian went indeed almost nutil the flamme rouge, but then pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Coquard launched the sprint as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Wippert came through on the right side of the road. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Tzortzakis goining shortly after him, surely not the best of teamwork here. Can anybody profit from that?

300 meters...

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Dauphine/dau11.jpg

...not sure, this is completely open. Well the greek is too slow surely. But 10 guys still in contension, and it's all the big names inside. Prime position might be for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ers.png Impey who comes out of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Coquards slipstream just around him, or maybe pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbh.png Cavendish if he doesn't get blocked by the frenchman.

This is intense!

Only a 100 meters left and now it's...

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Dauphine/dau12.jpg

...the South African in the lead! Is this going to be a cinderella story for the all african PCT team or can anybody stop him?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Dauphine/dau13.jpg

No! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ers.png Daryl Impey wins the opening stage of this years Dauphine. What a great day for him, his team and African Cycling! We'll see more and more of them in the future surely.

The podium will be completed by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Coquard leading young riders and a pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met_rom.png Grosu. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Tzortzakis the next I-Gen man in 4th, they won't be happy despite the two top positions, cause good tactics could've won it for them surely.
