154.7km, on a slightly more up and down parcours than previous stages. By slightly, I mean sharp, terrifying ramps of a maximum of 3%. The favourites are the same as ever, but yesterday proved anything is possible.

It’s quite windy again today, the windsock showing crosswinds of around 42km/h at the start. However, the break would seemingly be allowed to form more easily than yesterday, and would include pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cdb.png Bøchman, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lpu.png Van Aert and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hpa.png Park from previous breaks, as well as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Holohan and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lpm_gab.png Thaouta. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Holohan would take the first Cat 4 at 103km to go, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lpu.png Van Aert and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hpa.png Park taking the remaining points.

The peloton at this point with about 75km to go, only 3 minutes behind.

The wind speed is still at around 30km/h, so while the peloton has 55km to close a 2 minute gap there’s still a need for them to be careful.

The final intermediate sprint would be with 22km to go, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Holohan would take it ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hpa.png Park and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lpm_gab.png Thaouta. The peloton was getting close at this point, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lpu.png Van Aert and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cdb.png Bøchman have seemingly been distanced from the break due to acceleration of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Holohan before the sprint marker.

Now, with 18km to go the peloton looks set to make the catch. But the crosswinds have wreaked havoc, and a group of 26 has managed to get away from everyone else. The biggest names missing from a GC perspective are pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/elt.png Fonseca, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Stauff, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hpa.png Colbrelli and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nwb.png Nizzolo - it has to be questioned if they’ll make it back?

Disappointingly from a neutral perspective, the answer is yes for the group containing the other top sprinters who all return with 15km to go. Rain has started to fall, and with 5km to go we have trains forming at the front for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Stauff, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Nelson and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mop.png King - with most of the other top sprinters also in attendance, though pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cdb.png Docker and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/0r8.png Scully are slightly further back.
