You know the drill by now. A 160km flat stage with exactly the same group of favourites, and most probably exactly the same outcome.

The peloton and the break spent much of the early stages playing cat and mouse with one another, with crosswinds of up to 45km/h playing a role in making many of the attempts unsuccessful. The four that would finally succeed would be pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/0r8.png Gudsell, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Perry, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lpu.png Van Aert and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hpa.png Park - going through the first Cat 4 in that order.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/0r8.png Gudsell would take the first intermediate sprint also, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lpu.png Van Aert second ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Perry and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hpa.png Park again in 4th. Nothing much to report from the peloton at this point, with the gap hovering around 6 minutes with 90km to go.

The next Cat 4 would see pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/0r8.png Gudsell once again repeat his victory, in a repeat of the order from the first Cat 4. With that, he would move into a tie for the KoM lead. The wind had now dropped to around 35km/h and the peloton was starting to narrow the gap.

With 65km to go we had the final intermediate, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/0r8.png Gudsell made it 4/4 on the day while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Perry took second and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hpa.png Park third. Despite pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/0r8.png Scully’s struggles, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/0r8.png Gudsell looks to be trying to rescue something for his team here.

Nothing really happened for the next 55km, but as we hit 10km to go the break still has a minute - can they perhaps hold on? The wind is back up to 45km/h, complicating the chase.

With 3.5km to go pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Perry tries to take a flier, leaving his compatriots in the break behind. He holds 15 seconds of advantage still, so surely he can’t hold on?

Seemingly not, as with 1.5km to go he’s caught. As we head under the Flamme Rouge there’s still a small gap, and it looks like pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr_crc.png Guillén vs pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spb.png Thorsen vs pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/elt.png Fonseca for the win. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr.png Cano and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spb.png Meenhorst are still up there as the final leadouts. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Nelson is not even at the front of the peloton, so he’ll just be seeking damage limitation here.

With 500m to go, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spb.png Thorsen has launched and it seems only pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/elt.png Fonseca can live with him - while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr_crc.png Guillén is fading slightly, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lpm.png Krieger is trying to come from behind to pass the leadout men.
