Welcome to the actual race of the Sachsen-Anhalt Classic. The weather is good today, and the wind is not very strong. All in all it should give the best riders a chance to win.

After a large amount of attack attempts, we finally see a break being formed. The riders are: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wcc.png Venturini, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vdc.png Cerovic and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Christie.

Very quickly we have our first DNF of the day. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Takenouchi crashes on the first cobbled ride of the day and can't continue.

The cobbles really take it out of the riders. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Ingels and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/elt_gre.png Karatzios are just a selection of the many riders who crash or puncture on today's cobbled section, that is over 4 kilometers long and in a very bad state.

Despite the massacre in the pack early on the break manages to max its lead at 6 minutes, 110km from the line. It's very unlikely it'll be enough though.

In spite of the hard course, the pack still contains 90 riders with 50k to go. Ingels, as a consequence of his crash, is not one of them though. Gap for the leaders is around 2m40 now, but of course the real racing is yet to behind. We do see the first riders already being lapped though.

On the next two sections Podium Ambition decides to take up the pace a bit. Not only is the pack torn apart, the break is also reeled in with 30km to go. Most prominent victim of the high pace so far is Pozzato.

With 20km to go the pack is still together with 50 riders, but now it's pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Thomas taking the lead in the pack.

And with just 12km to go we see why Thomas worked, because now it's his teammate pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Hristov to attack. Nobody follows him. Meanwhile Nuyens has been dropped from the pack, along with many others.

He's picked up just before the final time we hit the cobbles. 9km only left to ride, of which 4 cobbles. 32 riders still in the pack.

This final section was obviously bound to have attacks. This time it's Thomas who goes and gets a big gap! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cdb.png Østergaard tries to follow, but has to let go quickly.

5km to go and Thomas has 20 seconds on the chasing pack, which has picked up Ostergaard already.

Thomas is clearly the strongest in this race, as he heads into the final 3km with a 30 second lead.

The chasing pack consists of 20 riders, who will probably fight it out for 2nd place then. The names are:

In the pack it's still 1km left. Bush, Boonen and Lindeman lead in the sprint.

Lindeman soon takes a bit of a lead, while Bush drops back a bit.

Lindeman easily comes 2nd, with Boonen completing the podium.

Kurth narrowly comes 4th ahead of De Maar. Ostergaard, Hristov, Bush, De Haes and Walsleben also make the top-10.
