Will the only mountain stage decide the GC? It`s only 11km but everyone on himself against the clock!
How much will be the difference between climbers and puncheurs?
Van der Hugenhaben impressed yesterday and has a bit of a gap and is not a bad climber at all.
Ricco, Cunego, Valls, Bibby, Cataldo all did well, too finishing in the first group.

It`s the puncheurs Kinoshita, Konovalovas, Craven, Anuar Aziz, Gallopin, Kadri, Redecker, who were the other riders in that GC area, while some climbers such as Ji, Kiserlovski, Rodrigues need to gain the time back they lost yesterday.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Japan/mg2016_japan_04_PCM0203.jpg

Early on we see already quite big gaps. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Ablenado as pure climber takes the lead and is already more than 1min ahead of Seboka and almost 2 ahead of Dion Smith and the others. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ers_gab.png Anguilet though just moments later goes 10s faster and it seems that the allround skills saw him a bit less exhausted for todays stage. Similar for Jeannesson who finishes in between those two.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ioc.png Kratochvila and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/afr.png Augustyn a bit later also go similar fast and take the new 1-2 though.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Japan/mg2016_japan_04_PCM0210.jpg

With pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Rodrigues we slowly reach the top15-20 area. The Portuguese is passing both ealier starters Ventoso and Goncalves and takes the new lead!

5s faster as Kratochvila and 16s to Augustyn.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Japan/mg2016_japan_04_PCM0213.jpg

Just two riders later though Meiji`s top climber pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Ji, who is one of todays favourites, goes 21s faster showing his skills here while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ers.png Teklehaimanot isn`t as strong as in 2015 and just comes in as 9th already 1min down and surprisingly also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ssc.png Kiserlovski in that area just 1s faster!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Japan/mg2016_japan_04_PCM0218.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/col.png Betancourt hasn`t given up yet on a decent GC position and as he is just seconds slower than the recently finished climbers, his top10 chances are still there depending on the upcoming hill stage.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/afr.png Meintjes in provisional 3rd for the moment and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Schelling as 11th. First with a good ride while later seems to lack a bit of energy after his long solo yesterday.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Japan/mg2016_japan_04_PCM0222.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/afr.png Ricco was only 11th right now but will surely climb up a lot as he goes 22s faster than Ji! He even passes Kadri, who started a lot earlier and is losing 2'50 on him!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Japan/mg2016_japan_04_PCM0225.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vuk.png Cunego and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Kinoshita finishing next to each other can only mean two things. Cunego with a pretty good ride and Kinoshita is going to lose time today!

And indeed the Italian is just 6s off Ricco`s time while the Meiji leader is losing similar as Kadri! 2'49 for him and hence he needs a better ride on the hilly stage to improve his GC again.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Japan/mg2016_japan_04_PCM0229.jpg

First pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vtb.png Cataldo as 7th a bit under 1min and then pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/eus.png Valls with yet another solid performance in 4th just beaten by the 3 best climbers in this race! 38s for him though.

Anuar Aziz losing even 3'35 as he is definitely more a puncheur only rider similar to Konovalovas! Also Gallopin losing close to 3min and hence the climbers take over the GC top area.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Japan/mg2016_japan_04_PCM0234.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Bibby is always performing here and while todays loss of 1'13 is not too much, the amount of allrounders in this year make it difficult for him to fight for the podium once again. Still he seems to move up to 4th just behind Ricco, Cunego and Valls and ahead of last years winner Cataldo.

Craven at +3'38, Redecker on +3'46 lose lots of time today!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Japan/mg2016_japan_04_PCM0237.jpg

And actually just behind the former race leader, the actual comes in as well. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ioc.png van der Hugenhaben surprised quite a few yesterday as he often underperformed in last 1-2 years.
His climbing skills are similar to Bibby, Teklehaimanot or Augustyn. Those finished around 50 to 90s off the best.

Though the Dutch just like Schelling seems to suffer from the solo ride yesterday! His time is pretty damn awful. As if he had forgotten he is an allrounder he finishes in the area of pure puncheurs! Just 1s faster than Kinoshita. 2'49 to the very best and this way he is ruining his great position and is dropping down to 6th overall!

Behind him Meintjes, Ji, Schelling and Rodrigues all ahead of the puncheurs. Those though will get yet another stage for their advantage. But right now the advantage of the top5 climbers and in especially the two Italian veterans seems to be pretty solid.
