Tour de Romandie - Stage 4
jandal7
i.imgur.com/PbvbIgm.jpg

Stage 4 is finally the hilly stage of the Tour of Romandie and we'll be looking forward to the battle for the stage win and if any of the big GC names makes their move before tomorrow's queen stage and the final time trial on day 6. The sunny skies continue as we make our way, once again, around Lake Geneva.

i.imgur.com/RIIjrsk.jpg

1st, 2nd and 5th in the KoM are present and correct in the morning break, they're
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Van Winden
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Mehr-Wenige and
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Borges respectively. Accompanying them are
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spy.png Hoogerland
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Grippo
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vtb.png Lane and
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/boi.png Shaw to make a potentially lethal group of seven.

i.imgur.com/3Teq6vL.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Borges absolutely waltzes to the KoM over the Cat 2 Monts de Corsier ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Mehr-Wenige giving the German the provisional lead. He'd similarly dominate the intermediate sprint in the small Catholic town of Semsales, with just over 1,00 people, many of whom are out to watch. They'll be disappointed at the lack of Swiss riders on the offensive... again.

i.imgur.com/wdmvelt.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Kuboki's Meji,pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nns.png Sanchez Gil's Netia and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/alm.png Roche's Arrinera are the main teams at the front, and they know what a threat members of the group up front pose - the gap with 70km to go is just 1'54"!

i.imgur.com/sP3vQY4.jpg

It'd almost be comical - despite the dry roads pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spy.png Hoogerland brings down pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Van Winden and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/boi.png Shaw. The gap was steadily increasing and so this is a shot in the arm to their prospects! In fact, they've been swept up by the pack, leaving the four in front 30km to go with 1'20".

i.imgur.com/6HALIzZ.jpg

This isn't just for the KoM - this is for the honour of being last man! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Borges (mock shock please) attacks his companions with 3km to go on the Col du Pillon, and quickly the gap is opened! He has 27 seconds to the 3 porsuivants, who in turn have just 31 to the peloton!

i.imgur.com/yZOFJ8z.jpg

He's cresting both the 20km banner and the KoM point alone (taking the competition lead as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vtb.png Lane and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Mehr-Wenige try to pursue him (pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Grippo is swept up) they have quite the lead on the pack, for the groups still in contention it looks like:

As pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Borges goes through the intermediate sprint with 10.7km to go and 5km to the foot of the ascent to the resort village of Leysin. He has 1'14" to his Aussie pursuer and a further 54 seconds to the pack, whilst pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Mehr-Wenige was swept up as the pack shedded dead weight - and lots of it as there's just 93 left. Who's to stop pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Borges winning? Why, in a strange tactical manouvre, his countryman and teammate pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Oliveira, cracking some serious wattage on the head of the peloton.

i.imgur.com/093yO5g.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vtb.png Lane is caught but pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Borges still has 1'45" as he starts the final climb. He's also our provisional GC leader, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Kuboki is still in the main bunch but the Portuguese rider only needs 51 seconds to get in the GC lead.

i.imgur.com/hJbImMz.jpg

And it seems either his teammates or DS hate our lone escapee: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Machado attacks! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/alm.png Roche, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/col.png Úran and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cpl.png Dekker immediately respond, however pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nns.png Panayotov, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Amador and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Bibby are in hot pursuit. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/eus.png Euskatel and a lone Meiji rider, you guessed it: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Kazushige "Hi Mum!" Kuboki are leading the pack.

i.imgur.com/f7hKjaV.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nns.png Panayotov can't handle the pace and is caught, meanwhile pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/eus.png Valls goes and follwing him are pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vuk.png Yevgeni "The One That Climbs" Nepomnyachsniy and a bit further back, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Ahmed "What do you mean, pick a speciality?" Belgasem and defending champion pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nns.png Sanchez.

i.imgur.com/x6N8YYH.jpg

Back to the front and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Borges has a 1'12" advantage with 2km to go but is again being pursued by a teammate.

i.imgur.com/Wk7sHjA.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/col.png Úran bonks and is caught by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Amador and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Bibby, neither of the trio are going anywhere really. Behind only pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/eus.png Valls and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vuk.png Nepom have escaped the pack.

i.imgur.com/U6UOxn3.jpg

The peloton has split (pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Kuboki hasn't given up the dream, is still in the front 38) whilst pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/eus.png Valls and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vuk.png Nepom have been joined by
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nns.png Sanchez Gil
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Shikai (his team has)
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ssc.png Kiserlovski and Alizadeh
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Talansky and Roglič.

i.imgur.com/50DZudj.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Amador won't let pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Machado get a single second - he's finally gone solo with 1km to go!

i.imgur.com/uRH3Ofk.jpg

Too shattered to celebrate!

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Borges holds off pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cpl.png Dekker for the stage win, who will grab the GC lead and puts what could be considered a gap into pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Machado and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/alm.png Roche, but all three have put over 30 seconds into pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Amador!

i.imgur.com/xJ8uH4f.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Roglič nips pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Shikai for 6th in the group of 10 (pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/col.png Úran and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Bibby were caught with no pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Amador to wheelsuck).

i.imgur.com/tTuPqTd.jpg

He's earned cult status for his racing, particularly today, but he has to concede the jersey.
