Tour de Romandie - Stage 3

i.imgur.com/iPNZCTo.jpg

Another flat stage, it's on a circuit with a mountain point that will be contested four times. We have an slight uphill drag to the line which could see tougher sprinters in the fore. Cloudless conditions for a third day running, long may it continue.

We do have a break today -
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ioc.png Smith
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Barbero
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Mehr-Wenige
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Van Winden
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kar.png Barth and
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ino.png Chawchiangkuang are today's attackers. It forms after the first KoM sprint which was taken by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Borges.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Barbero takes the second mountain sprint ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Van Winden. Here's the rest of the sprint winners:

With 18km to go over the final KoM sprint (giving pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Van Winden the KoM jersey) the break has splintered: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Barbero, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Mehr-Wenige and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Van Winden have 1'41" on the pack whilst the other three are 23 seconds back.

With a little over 10km left pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Van Winden is slowly but surely leaving his companions behind - can the renowned powerhouse hold off the pack with just 44 seconds? No, he can't.

i.imgur.com/vL9JwyS.jpg

Talk about disorganisation! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Shikai leads a line of riders into the final 2.5km the order is:
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Kuboki
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vtb.png Aregger
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Opie
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ino.png Keough
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/col.png Forero
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Reinhardt
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/boi.png Bennett
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc_chl.png Mansilla
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/san.png Richeze
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Granjel Cabrera and then a thicker group of the rest of the remaining bunch.

i.imgur.com/i3np7S1.jpg

2.1km to go and the yellow and green jersey is launching! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Kuboki leads the front group of 5 (soon to be 4) as they open up a little gap to the rest! We're onto the slightly uphill drag now, though the previews have overestimated it.

i.imgur.com/H8jt9AZ.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Reinhardt is attempting to bridge, a brave move but it's the only chance the bunch has as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Kuboki still leads as the front 4 still have that gap, which nobody is looking like shutting!

i.imgur.com/vCUFPGZ.jpg

Under the flamme jaune it's pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Kuboki with a sizeable advantage, what a shock this could be! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vtb.png Aregger has had 500m to shut this but it's only grown as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Opie realises he's gotta be the one and goes for it!

i.imgur.com/3eTZqZ1.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Opie with a killer acceleration to catch the GC leader with 500m to go. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Kuboki has position, but the Brit has speed. It'll be tight.

i.imgur.com/mm9fdj5.jpg

Behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vtb.png Aregger and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ino.png Keough fade whilst
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Reinhardt has not quite taken everyone else up to the former two - but has nevertheless run out of puff!

i.imgur.com/uFubhsi.jpg

200m and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Kuboki with an incredibly long-lasting effort to stay in front.

i.imgur.com/YIucM1J.jpg

And oh my word, he's done it!

i.imgur.com/LAViOjP.jpg

i.imgur.com/99u4h9u.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mei.png Kazushige Kuboki takes his second stage of the Tour of Romandie today in Fribourg at a speed too much for our cameras, ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Chris Opie!

i.imgur.com/MxCE4GV.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vtb.png Aregger sucks wheel to 3rd spot for a second stage running whilst pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Granjel Cabrera pips pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Reinhardt to the best of the bunch. Now it's down to the race jury to decide if the gap was, in fact, a gap. Controversially but probably inconsequentially, it's not.
