34,6km TTT with a short hill up and down again. The TTT averages can be found in the discussion thread and might be more accurate than the ones by the bookies. Though another interesting thing is that while having a great team is good, the top puncheur needs to keep on with them. Several top GC guys lack the TT strength and hence can influence the performance of the whole today.
First a look at the 10km mark. All teams have already reached that point and Eritel went fastest ahead of Netia and top favourite Generali. Except for the last 2-3 teams though everything is very close.
Also it was the part with the uphill section, hence good for the puncheurs. From now on the struggle might start.
Spotify have to improve here. Otherwise Bystrom is going to lose some time. In the end they are obvious 1st as first finisher but how much time do they lose? 5 riders together in the finish but at least their leader was one of them in the U25 shirt.
Netia with 6 riders even. Though they don`t really have a GC rider and hence were able to concentrate on a good stage performance only. 2nd after the climb, but losing a bit on the flat and also land behind Spotify in the finish. +8s and actually Panayotov as 14th in the GC was ignored by the team and dropped early.
UBS with Schumacher comes to the finish. They were rather weak early on and also the leader himself had a under average season so far and was showing similar only this race.
For now though first as steady improver over the course.
7 riders even come to the finish for Eritel. They started fast but then lost a few seconds to other teams in the mid area. How quick did they go on the final part? To be honest, not very fast which explains the big size. Only 4th in the finish +12s.
Next La Poste around Dowsett. Only the minimum amount left for him. And while this could mean they were fast, they definitely weren`t. Last and +25s. At least not looking like big time gaps could be made today.
Telkom was incredible fast in the mid section. From 7th in the first part to 1st at the 20km mark, though not all have reached this point yet.
Though also in the finish Dumoulin leads them over the line as 1st for the moment. Ben Nasser in the middle of them getting a good time here.
And now all teams have reached the 22km mark. Telkom as mentioned first there as no other team went faster.
Generali though still close and just 5s off. Then some bigger gaps and we must be thrilled for Vontobel and Ferrero, who were quick so far.
But first Hugo Boss. Twice 11th only. Hence the 6th in the finish for now could end 11th again. +44s and only La Poste (+51 now) lost more. With Costa and Gonzalez Salas, you probably could have expected more.
Yikes. Generali still with 8 riders! This means the power train of TTT beasts is probably not going full speed as Ulissi is still with them.
+1s at 10km and +5s at 22km. Were they able to improve despite having a break in Ulissi?
Actually no. Only 2nd for them +7s which is still a good time.
But worse for them that while the TTT got lost due to Ulissi, he also lost contact on the final meters, hence he will lose anotehr couple seconds. Officials have him on another 25s hence around Bystrom`s time...bad luck matt.
Vontobel did well at the splits and still have 7 riders left. They can`t beat the top2 but go into 3rd position +26s. As Di Maggio is within them, he is gaining on Ulissi!
Strava went for Roux instead of Gilbert other than the team manager thought. Today though they will lose a bit as they come in as 9th with +45s.
Small 5 men squad of Ferrero to the finish. Barbin still one of them and they do decent. 5th in the finish +28s.
Last but not least Arrinera with GC leader Roche. 7 riders together in the finish and the pace was still high. 3rd for them! +26s. Hence all the big riders are close to each other.
Di Maggio-Roche-Ulissi-Barbin all within a few seconds.
Ben Nasser being the big winner gaining a bit more while Dowsett one of todays losers rather behind. Well next to Ulissi as his team lost the TTT due to him and also lost him...
