Tour of the Middle East - Stage 11
The Rider
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/ME11.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M1101.jpg
Win no.3 for Carlsberg?

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cdb.png Steensen, one of the big favourites for this stage, quickly affirms his status with the best provisional time early on. After going through the 1st checkpoint at 19'14 he went on to finish with a terrific time of 1'06'39. Good enough for the stage win? ...

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M1102.jpg
... not today!

KAYAK - Clas Ohlsen really have had a great Tour of the Middle East and today they continued in much the same vein. Rolling back the years pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kch.png Posthuma would beat Steensen's time at the 1st checkpoint by '20 ...

... and he would go on to set the next fastest time of the day: 1'05'36. 1'03 faster than the Dane.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M1103.jpg

Then came the big favourite, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Tennant. The Brit would pass through the first checkpoint '2 faster than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kch.png Posthuma with a time of 18'52. Could we finally be seeing a stage win for Isostar - Adriatic?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M1104.jpg

Whilst the Brit was out on course pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Bontenackels would put up a great effort. After going through the 1st checkpoint with a time of 18'58, a steady measured ride would see the German finishing just '7 down on pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kch.png Posthuma.

Did pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Tennant finish well?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M1105.jpg
Yes he did!

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Tennant's time of 1'05'31, '5 faster than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kch.png Posthuma's time, was a grand one. One more than capable of taking the stage win.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M1106.jpg
Where did that time come from?

Shortly afterwards pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Barton, someone who apparently doesn't like the flat, stormed through the 1st checkpoint with a time of 18'45: '7 faster than the Brit. Could he keep that up?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M1107.jpg

He sure could. With only the favourites now to challenge, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Barton's suprising lead time of 1'04'54 would be the one to beat. '37 faster than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Tennant.

With no one really challenging the top times in between we now move to the GC top 10. Any changes to come?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M1108.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Tvetcov disappoints. Barely making it into the top 20 on the stage pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Tvetcov would not be moving up in the GC today. He would have expected to leapfrog pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nwb.png De Marchi, and put 2'00 into the Italian, however, he only put '24 into him and stays in 8th place.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M1109.jpg

A solid time from the Cuban NC, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Martinez, 6th on day, would see him comfortably hold on to his 9th place spot in GC.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M11091.jpg

5th on stage, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spr.png Zoidl, put in the best time of the GC men. Though he would have expected to challenge for the win: 1'20 down on pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Barton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M11092.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Antón would finish 3'06 down on the stage. Disappointing?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M11093.jpg
Not at all!

Despite the Spaniard's time being a bit lacklustre it was enough to see him rise 2 places to 3rd place in GC. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mop.png Pomoshnikov disappoints and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Hacecký, after having being 3rd for so long, majorly disappoints on the stage: down to 4th and 5th in GC.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M11094.jpg

Mr consistency, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr.png De la Cruz, put in the solid effort you expect from him. With just '1 to overcome surely the GC lead would be his?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M11095.jpg
A great effort by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cdb.png Garby!

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cdb.png Garby realy did give his all. Riding out of his skin he would finish 21st at all checkpoints, put time into more notable men against the clock ....

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Middle East/M11096.jpg

... however, it was never going to be enough to hold on to the yellow jersey. With one stage to go the Dane is down to second place with a now large gap of 1'19 separating him from the new yellow jersey, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr.png De la Cruz: 7th on the stage.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Barton wins stage 11: win no.2 of the race for Chiquita - Universal. He had the good legs today and finishes with a large margin ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Tennant, in 2nd, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kch.png Posthuma, who rounds out the podium.
