Steensen, one of the big favourites for this stage, quickly affirms his status with the best provisional time early on. After going through the 1st checkpoint at 19'14 he went on to finish with a terrific time of 1'06'39. Good enough for the stage win? ...

... and he would go on to set the next fastest time of the day: 1'05'36. 1'03 faster than the Dane.

De Marchi, and put 2'00 into the Italian, however, he only put '24 into him and stays in 8th place.

Garby realy did give his all. Riding out of his skin he would finish 21st at all checkpoints, put time into more notable men against the clock ....
