pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Great Ocean Road Classic/MG16_C2HC_greatocean_02.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Rowe is announced as the top favourite, together with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nwb.png Nizzolo and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mop.png B.King. But other sprinters like pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Nelson, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lse.png Vanderaerden or pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Manarelli won't give up that easily today. Strong wind is expected too.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Great Ocean Road Classic/MG16_C2HC_greatocean_03.jpg

The first breakaway attempt is the good one, 3 guys will be at the front today, despite pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Jiatz and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mop.png Mamykin tries :
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spb.png Cooper
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kch.png Stevenson
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr.png Gonzalez

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Great Ocean Road Classic/MG16_C2HC_greatocean_04.jpg

Very classic race, as the peloton lets the breakaway an interesting gap, but comes back easily. The pace goes up a bit more at 40 kilometers to go, while the 3 riders escaped have a 2 minutes margin.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Great Ocean Road Classic/MG16_C2HC_greatocean_05.jpg

The new rhythm causes a first echelon, leaving 15 riders behind. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lse.png Vanderaerden, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nwb.png Abdallah and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spr.png Awang as the most notable names.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Great Ocean Road Classic/MG16_C2HC_greatocean_06.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png De Haes decides to attack with 30 kilometers left ! There's only one minute left for the breakaway, and the peloton goes even faster now to catch the belgian.

He got caught, but not the breakaway, as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr.png Gonzalez goes solo after the 20 kilometers arch. The peloton lost some riders, let's check who's still here (ranked by number of guys) :
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/fnz.png Giacoppo, De Vocht, Bayly, Von Hoff, Schultz, Delgerbayar, Altanzul, Flens
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mop.png B.King, Napolitano, Galimzyanov, Szalontay, Varga, Mamykin, Rybalkin
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Turgot, Selig, Last, Connolly, Perry, Field, Holohan
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Mezgec, Drucker, Raim, Laas, Timmer, Nommela, Katrasnik
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wcc.png Bush, Venturini, Puerta, Bouglas, Contreras, Clifford
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nwb.png Nizzolo, Markus, Tempier, Trusov, Timofeev
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Rowe, Brammeier, Takenouchi, Wu
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Nelson, Thomas, Alaphilippe
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Drapac, Matthews, De Haes
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spr.png Salleh, Zafferani
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr.png Guillen
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spb.png Thorsen

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Great Ocean Road Classic/MG16_C2HC_greatocean_09.jpg

The guy from Guatemala exploded, and he's passed by an other rider : pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mop.png B.King ! The american probably doesn't want a sprint today. At 10 kilometers left, it's not the moment to stop behind, as the peloton only have 32 guys left to chase. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Thomas and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wcc.png Bush are trying to come back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Great Ocean Road Classic/MG16_C2HC_greatocean_10.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mop.png B.King is finally caught at the edge of the last 5 kilometers, with big work of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nwb.png Nizzolo. But look at that, only 10 guys are in the front now ! Hectic situation.
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Drucker, Timmer
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Nelson, Thomas
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mop.png B.King
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/fnz.png Delgerbayar
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Connolly
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wcc.png Bush
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nwb.png Nizzolo
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Drapac

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Great Ocean Road Classic/MG16_C2HC_greatocean_11.jpg

The rest of the peloton couldn't come back before the start of the final sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Great Ocean Road Classic/MG16_C2HC_greatocean_12.jpg

2 km left, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Thomas built a little lead on his opponents. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wcc.png Bush and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Drapac are dropped from the group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Great Ocean Road Classic/MG16_C2HC_greatocean_13.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Thomas is still in first place under the Flamme Rouge, but he's back on his saddle. It's now pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mop.png King and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Drucker who surrender. Only pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Timmer and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Connolly are in a sprint position now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Great Ocean Road Classic/MG16_C2HC_greatocean_14.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Timmer and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Connolly passed pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Thomas ! 600 meters left.

pcmdaily.com/images//mg/2016/Races/CT/Great Ocean Road Classic/MG16_C2HC_greatocean_15.jpg

The last one sprinting is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Connolly, can he come back on pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Timmer on the final 200 meters ?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Great Ocean Road Classic/MG16_C2HC_greatocean_16.jpg

He does it, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png William Connolly wins the Great Ocean Road Classic ! Nearly nobody could have predicted this one. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Albert Timmer comes second, in front of 2 Podium Ambition riders : pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Ricki Nelson and Geraint Thomas. And pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nwb.png Nizzolo closes the top 5 !

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Great Ocean Road Classic/MG16_C2HC_greatocean_17.jpg

The sprint of the « peloton » for 7th place is won by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr.png Marco Guillen, before 2 guys that were at the front earlier : pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Drucker and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mop.png King.
