Dutch footballer gets prison sentence for foul
CrueTrue
I was very surprised to hear this, but the current Wigam-player Rachid Bouaouzan has been sentenced to 6 months of prison - (suspended sentence) - because he tackled another player, Niels Kokmeijer, resulting in the guy having to end his career afterwards. It's the first time ever that something happening on the football field results in a sentence at a trial.

You can see the foul here:

that happened in rugby when 2 players broke jarrod mcrackens back with a spear tackle

they got fined 100,00 dollars

Crommy
That was an awful tackle.

But prison?

Why sentence him? It's an assault on an another person, he doesn't go for the ball at all. But he should have got a fine.

Prison is waaay too much of an overreaction

the story behind all this is because the guy who got tackled (Kokmeijer) couldnt play football anymore and from what I believe he still cant walk properly because he cant apply any pressure whatsoever on the leg that he broke and Kokmeijer said about a year ago that he cant live a normal life anymore. thats why he kept on pressing charges against Bouaouzan when he was still with Sparta Rotterdam.

I agree prison is a bit of an over-reaction, but to be fair the dudes leg sort of spirals aroundShock

indeed, and I just looked up some more stuff on Kokmeijer and it seems he isnt even able to walk atm and quoted from wikipedia 'I dont even know if I will be able to walk normally ever again'Shock

It's still way too much. It's a part of being a football player - it's a part of the sport. You can start putting players in prison from now on and keep on forever if you have to put all players in prison who have made stupid tackles which weren't good for anything.

Duncan Ferguson went to prison as well.
I made a foul when he was at Rangers got convicted when he was at Everton.
He got 44 days and was the first footballer ever to go jail because of a foul Smile

In american football(NFL) people have died before on a tackle nad they weren't even fined. Is a foul in football (soccer) game that important to put someone in jail? I understand he can't play football anymore but I mean seriously, Jail. It is part of the game. It wasn't like he didn't even have the ball. at least it was in the direction of the ball.

this case should have gone to court and duly did as it ended his career

but all he should have done is sued him

his career isn't that important. People's careers end all the time for an injury and nothing happens. You can't start sewing everyone.

Finally justice, the foul was made in a moment in the game where the team of Niel Kokmeijer was winning, and the foul had nothign to do with getting the ball. When you make a tackle like this you must consider what you are doing and why you are on the football pitch. I think this jail sentencing is deffinetly correct, Niels can't ever walk normal again and Rachid is going to face the consquesne(something like that) for his actions.

And face it, going to prison in Holland isnt that bad. You get a playstation so you can entertain yourself and its not like the prison is full of murders like in the us&a.

Sorry but this shows that you dont have a clue about the game called Soccer. If you play soccer you dont have silly body protection like in american football. If you tackle with a stretched leg on another leg you can easily brake it. Thats why its not allowed to tackle with streched legs. If you break your legg at soccer you almost know your carreer is over.

You live in the USA, the country where you can sew anybody about anything and if you disable someone with an action not even close to a sporting incident you must face the consequence.

Are you kidding me. You don't send someone to jail for a hard tackle. If a man pulled out a knife on the field and chased after a person he might only get 6 months. And to send some to jail for a play then WHAT HAS THE WORLD COME TO. Fine him and leave at that.

So if I'm saying he shouldn't be sued then you know it wasn't that bad.

matt, desmond said sue him not jail him

and sueing is perfectly viable as he could lose lots of money because of this

I dunno why you say that but, if you make a foul on the soccer pitch what can be the penalty? A red card, a suspension and maybe even a fine. But this foul was soo harsh that Kokmeyer has decided to take the next step and that is to go to court.

Yes definetly Niels Kokmeyer was at the beginning of his career at Go Ahead Eagles (Deventer) and there was already lots of interest in him from the big clubs in Holland.
