So I'm in my 1st with MTN Qhubeka, I'm a 72 overall puncher and I can't seem to win or place top 10 on hilly stages suited for me. My strategy is usually to make a move around 10km to go after we catch the breakaway. I set to my effort to 85 and try to pull but always to no avail. Is it the strategy or am I just not good enough yet? If strategy could you guys recommend one? Thanks.
I prefer using the attack order on hilly stages. I just feel that the climbs aren't really long/hard enough to "grind" down the opposition through pulling at a high effort, and with a puncher you hopefully have a reasonably high acceleration and downhill stat. I'll try to attack at about 8-15km left, trying to see if the pace goes down a bit at some point with a tired rider seting the pace up front so I can get a gap on the rest. If not I'll probably still attack but get a few riders or more countering and just hope it's enough to grind down most of the riders still in it except for maybe a few of the ones who were able to follow the attack.
Is your rider good enough to get results in the races you're racing? With a 72 overall you might not be the best of the bunch and even if your hill stat is on par with some of the favorites you could have a disadvantage with some of the other attributes like resistance, stamina and so on.
You need to improve your stamina and resistance before than anything else.
I also had 81 mountain, but can't win stage on hard because of bad stamina, it was something around 68.. Now is 76 and I win stages easily.
