Even Valverde was racing on small teams before he was able to call himself Fleché Wallone and Liege-Bastogne-Liege winner. That should be just enough inspiration for me to put in some great performances eventhough I'm still making a living on the Continental Tour. My ambitions are skyhigh and nobody can question my confidence. I know what I want to be. I want to like Bettini, Valverde, Schleck and all the big stars of the ProTour. I want to win monuments. I want to support a Tour star in the Tour de France. In other words I want to feel what it is like to be a world-class cyclist and I know I've got what it takes.
Maybe I should introduce myself. I'm Jonas Aaen Jørgensen of the small Danish Continental Tour outfit Team GLS - Pakke Shop and as you might have figured by now I want to the creme of the crop. These next coming seasons is all about developing for me and of course pulling off some results to get the attention of the ProTour teams. Last year I had a great year with 3 wins and at the U23 World RR Championships I showed the world that I can really amount into something as I finished 6th on the day, eventhough I got pretty stuck in the sprint.
My best aspect as a rider right now is my sprinting ability. I will never be suitable for mass dashes in the ProTour races, but here on the CT I’m able to fight for podiums in large group. I’m also very strong on hilly routes and this is where I want to be the best. I’m a decent climber aswell nothing that compares to my acceleration up the sharp hills like the ones in Amstel, Liege and Lombardy. My biggest dream is to win the World Championships and one of the momuments.

Right now the prospect of a ProTour contract is a few years up the road and right now I’m just focusing on doing my job at Team GLS, which I hope will be a springboard for my future.
My role on the team this year will be to lead us in some races mainly because of my sprinting ability. When I’m at my peak I will be able to very well on hilly courses aswell and I hope I can hit that peak during Post Danmark Rundt, which is my biggest objective of the season. Our sponsors want us to finish on the podium here and I’m confident I will be the captain in this race.
I’m not the only strong rider on the team as we have plenty of talent. Guys like Kristoffer Nielsen and Michael Mørkøv are future cobble specialists and Niki Østergaard could very well become a rider I will have a lot of fights against when I will try to win in the Ardennes. But currently we’re on the same team and I will have to do some work for him on some occasion and vice versa.
We're starting off quite late this season as we don't start racing before February 23, meaning we will have a lot of time to hone our form before we take off in a small one-day race in France. Prior to that we will be on training camp from February 10 to 20 and I hope I can build my form here so I'm ready to pull off top tens immediately.

Let the pursuit of greatness commence
After just finishing 10 days of training camp in France we’re staying in the country for our first race of the season, where I’m also present, this together 3 Jours du Vaucluse will work as preparation for Tour de Normandie, where our sponsors wants one of our riders to end up at the podium, but whether it will be or Østergaard who will captain the team at that race is still uncertain and will depend solely on how our form is when that race begins.
Today’s race is the 157 km Les Boucles du Sud Ardeche. We have a strong team with me, Jacob Rasmussen, Niki Østergaard, Kristoffer Nielsen, Glenn Bak, Casper Jørgensen, Michael Mørkøv and Thomas Riber-Sellebjerg. The race has a few hills near the end but it should end up in a sprint, where I will most likely lead out Rasmussen if everything works out.
A group containing 8 riders got away in the early stages of the race in which we had Kristoffer Nielsen.
It was good to be on the road again eventhough I felt a bit sore after the training camp, but now it’s all about getting into the rhythm again.
Nikolas Cotret and Steve Chainel pulled away from other breakaway riders with 30 km to go. At that point the break had 4’30 on the pack so it looks like they will make it.
Bøhler of Joker-Bianchi caught the two Frenchmen at the last hill with some 15 kilometres to, these three riders would fight it out for the win. Nielsen was way back and we tried to reel in the remaining breakaway riders to get Rasmussen into the top 10 today.
Cotret edged Chainel out to the line with Bøhler rolling in in 3rd. The pack was closing in on Lisabeth, the remaining rider but Gasparre couldn’t quite catch him and he took 5th on the day.
Rasmussen crashed while I tried to lead him out so I had to go all in in the sprint. I found Design Køkken’s Alex Rasmussen’s wheel, but no doubt my legs need to get used to racing again as I could only manage 18th on the day, which I nevertheless think is decent for my first race of the season when I wasn’t even focused on doing something big.

It's possible. Actually, it's very easy to change teams with the editor. There's a guide for it in the DB-forum somewhere. Thread was opened by me.
Anyway, this looks really promising - like your CSC-story. And here's a warning: If the team is not already signed up for Het Volk, don't sign up for it. It will make the game crash  |

3 Jours du Vaucluse – Stage 1
A few days after Les Boucles du Sud Ardeche, we have lined up for another French race, 3 Jours du Vaucluse. I had to adjust my training scheme a bit a couple of days ago because I was getting into form too quickly, so right now I don’t have the best of legs, but Niki, who will be our captain here is feeling quite strong and with the three stages all being hilly he should be a podium candidate. The bookies favourite for this race is Rabobank CT’s Lars Boom.
Today’s TV break is underway. We missed the move today, but I think they will be reeled back in.
Eventhough the finish suits my quite well with some small hills leading up to the finish, my main concern today was to keep Østergaard out of the wind and I was actually feeling pretty lousy aswell so I think it was a good call to name Østergaard team captain.
Lequatre of Agritubel was the last of the breakaway to be reeled in with about 25 kilometres to the finish. At this point I wasn’t feeling good at all, but I was focused on brining Østergaard to the front in the finale.
The final hills were luckily very small so I was able to get over them while still being at the front. Niki did position himself a bit better as I’m the GLS rider in the foreground. Unfortuneately I didn’t have the energy to sprint.
French hopeful Cyril Gautier made a move that brought him and Niki to the very front just before the sprint began and they would fight it out. I had my fingers crossed.
Niki is a good finisher but Gautier was unfortuneately stronger on the day as he had no problem holding off Niki for the win.
I rolled in in 28th and I can happy with my job today as we all did a very good job protecting Niki, who will race in the Points jersey tomorrow. It was also nice to see so many Danes up in the top ten and it will be interesting to see if Niki can pull back the 8 second deficit on Gautier.

3 Jours du Vaucluse – Stage 2
Today’s mostly flat but there is some hills that will break our rhythm on the course, so hopefully I will get the chance to sprint for the win in a decimated peloton. But it’s all about helping Niki today, who did such a great rider yesterday finishing 2nd to stage winner and current race leader Cyril Gautier.
Michael Mørkøv represented us in today’s 10-man TV break
While the rest of team including myself focused on keeping Niki safe, so he could have fresh legs for the finale.
At the halfway stage when climbing the biggest climb of the day Mørkøv and an Agritubel rider had to let go of the breakaway and they were reeled in.
So was the remaining riders with Rabobank Espoir’s Rabou being the last rider to be reeled in with about 20 kilometres to go.
Again today my legs felt a bit sore at the end of the day and I wasn’t really able to get to the front, but luckily we had done a good job keeping Niki fresh, so he would be up there in the sprint again today. He found Finot of Differdange’s wheel and it was going to be against these two riders. Gautier was not up there so Niki could probably take the leaders jersey now.
But like yesterday he couldn’t get past in the sprint and Finot ended up claiming the second French win on the trot. Niki would get a very consolation though as he is now the leader of the race with 4 seconds on Finot and Gautier, so tomorrow I have the prospect of a lot of work. Can’t wait.

3 Jours du Vaucluse – Stage 3
I’m beginning to feel a bit better now and I’m confident I’ll be on fire in Tour de Normandie, but I have a few races before then, so I need to pace myself a bit. We are doing very good here, or Niki is. He’s leading the GC before today’s final stage and it will be up me and the rest of the team to protect his yellow jersey. I was a bit nervous before the stage as I usually don’t find myself in these positions, but it’s something I need to learn and I’ll start learning it the hard way from today.
Same old, same old, a break went away containing 5 riders, now it was up to us to control them, as four of the five riders was only 24 seconds behind Østergaard.
I was assigned to be Østergaard’s wingman at the start of the race while Mørkøv, Andersen, Schiøler and Hegreberg worked at the front.
I hope forget today very soon because everything went wrong. We thought we could reel the break in when we stabilized their gap at 7 minutes with 90 kilometres to go, but we were so wrong. At first it was just Mørkøv, Andersen, Schiøler and Hegreberg working at the front but soon I had to join in the work in a desperate attempt to close the gap.
But with 20 kilometres to go it looked to be an impossible task. With 20 kilometres to go the break, which now only consisted of the riders who were 24 seconds down in the GC, had more than 3 minutes on the peloton, where all the teams refused to help us out. It was really frustrating and even Niki had to go the front to try to work in the break, which consisted of Moucheraud, May, Muys and Miyazawa.
The break came down a bit faster now but the front four would battle it out for the stage and the GC. In the end it was a surprising win for Japanese Takashi Miyazawa who turned out to be the strongest in the sprint.
Me and Niki sprinted to the line but it was all cosmetic, Niki would end the tour in 5th place and I feel like we have let him down a bit.
I want to look forward now and just forget this race. Not only did we lose the lead on the final stage but I couldn’t really be satisfied with my own performance either. Next up for the team is Giro del Capo where Niki is the captain yet again. I won’t race here though, but I will lineup for a one-day race in Croatia that begins the day after Giro del Capo has finished.

My preperation for Tour de Normandie continues in this minor Croatian one-day race. It’s a mainly flat route but there’s a small climb but its gradient won’t bother me or any other sprinter for that matter. Formwise I am where I need to be. I’m feeling pretty good and I’ve been given the captain’s role for today which I’m thrilled about, so now I just want to show the team boss that it is justified.
An insignificant breakaway of 2 riders went away. There had been a lot of attacking prior to their escape but these were the only ones who got away.
It was nice to be wrapped up in the pack today and you clearly tell the difference energywise at the end of the race, when you have been kept out of the wind for the entire race.
As expected the breakaway wouldn’t make it and they were as good as caught with 30 kilometres to go, when Ondrej Sosenka in a surprise move attacked from the pack with Wackernagel countering him. He soon caught and past the breakaway and as Wackernagel couldn’t come across he now found himself soloing away.
Confident that he would be reeled back in we prepared for the sprint. Unfortuneately I had been demoted to lead-out man for Jacob Moe Rasmussen as he was having diamond legs today. The pace in the pack was furious and I had a hard time finding a decent wheel.
But that wouldn’t matter. Because Sosenka was still in front and it looked as though he would make it.
The pack was closing in fast but the strong Czech held them off to deny Alex Rasmussen of Designa Køkken a victory.
Me and Jacob Moe were in the fight for a top ten and we just managed to edge in there with Jacob finishing 9th ahead of me in 10th after we had a little arm wrestle at the finish.

Omloop van het Waasland
It was nice to come away with my first top ten result of the season in Croatia and the team is actually doing pretty good right now. Just before Trofej Poreca, Østergaard finished 7th overall in Giro del Capo and right now Jacob Moe and Brian Vandborg are 5th and 6th in Istarsko Proljece, a small stage race in Croatia. Today I’m confident of doing very good and maybe even a podium is within reach as I felt very good when I got in the saddle this morning and my legs responsed very well on the course, which was one-hundred percent flat.
A strong 10-man break went away in which we had Kristoffer Nielsen, the peloton looked in control.
While the others team were working at the front of the pack I took some time chiling in the pack alongside my teammates who had me under full protection.
With 50 kilometres to go I was feeling very good and I really determined to get on the podium today, but suddenly the gap to the break stopped coming down and it remained static at 2 minutes for the rest of the race. Again, very frustrating for me because finally I was getting into some kind of form and then it’s ruined by a breakaway.
Two riders seperated themselves from the rest and the would fight it out. It was Jurgen Francois of Willem’s Veranda and Wouter Mol of P3Transfer.
Francois turned out strongest as I had to fight for secondary positions. Another group of 6 riders from the original break held off the pack so there were only 2 top ten spots left to fight for.
I did very good in the sprint with only Van Heeswijk and Björn Glasner beating me. I’m the blue-shirted rider in the middle of the picture.
Dissapointing result because I would have gotten on the podium if the break had been caught. I’m still getting sharper so I hope I can do well in The Paths of King Nikola, which takes off in a few days.
