The TTT in Barcelona will have 2 'Semi Finals' followed by a Final.

19 teams plus a neutral squad participate in each semi, and the final will contain the top 9 from each Semi, plus the best 10th placed finish (and a Neutral squad).

Those 19 teams will then be selected for the 72km ITT in Slovenia. Although Slovenia will replace a team if they dont automatically make it and I might make one or 2 smaller changes.

HEAT 1

*** - Australia
** - Germany, Belgium
* - England, Switzerland

While all these 5 would safely qualify, neither would win the heat though.
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/tttheat1-a.png
William Bonnet, Benoit Vaugrenard, Stéphane Poulhiès, Jerome Coppel and Sylvain Chavanel led home France with a victoris time of 34'23. It came at a price though, as they lost Vaugrenaurd, Moreau and Brard along the way.
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/tttheat1-b.png
Germany, Australia, England, Scotland, Switzerland, New Zealand, Belgium and Sweden were the other nations to qualify, all 8 will look to the final now and hope to perform well.
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/tttheat1-c.png
Poland took a time of 35'30 and will eagerly watch Heat 2 to see if their time is enough to become the best 10th placed team.

1 FRANCE 34'23
2 GERMANY + 10
3 AUSTRALIA + 22
4 SWITZERLAND + 34
5 ENGLAND + 37
6 SCOTLAND + 47
7 SWEDEN + 52
8 BELGIUM + 55
9 NEW ZEALAND + 1'00
------------------------------
10 POLAND + 1'07

11 CROATIA + 1'21
12 AUSTRIA + 1'24
13 NORWAY + 1'30
14 CANADA + 1'33
15 IRELAND s.t.
16 LITHUANIA + 1'36
17 ARGENTINA + 2'00
18 PORTUGAL + 2'01
19 1 NEUTRAL + 8'42
- FINLAND DSQ

Finland managed to smuggle the German Sebastien Lang into their team but the organisers found out and duly disqualified them. It made little difference as they only manged 11th, 1'08 behind France.

My predictions for the second heat. USA, Italy, Russia!

HEAT 2

*** - USA
** - Spain, Russia
* - Holland, Slovenia

Heat 2 promised to be a fast paced, tight, and unpredictable heat. The winner was again not among the 6 favourites, while one of the 6 could only manage 12th - thus being eliminated.

i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/tttheat2-a.png
South Africa and Luxembourg were surprise leaders at the first checkpoint, with a time of 10'53. Ukraine were 6 seconds down and Holland 14 seconds down. Wales, Slovenia and Russia were tied 5th - 15 seconds down. USA and Italy placed tied 8th, 19 seconds back.

Italy recovered well to take the lead at checkpoint number 2, Holland were 3 seconds back, as were Luxembourg who rode brilliantly to maintain a strong position. Russia moved up to 4th, 12 seconds behind, 4 seconds ahead of previous leaders Sotuh Africa. Spain are now 6th, 20 seconds back, as they recover from a poor start. Wales ly 7th, and USA are in trouble, 30 seconds behind in 8th. Kazakhstan have snook into the final spot, but are only 3 seconds ahead of Czech Republic.
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/tttheat2-b.png

Spain were the first to finish and set a time of 34'14 - faster than France's Heat 1 winning time. It would not give them victory though as the next team home were Italy, in a time of 33'54. Russia took 2nd, just 4 seconds behind. A disappointing performance for Ukraine gave them the bottom time when they were the 4th to finish, 58 seconds down on Italy.
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/tttheat2-d.png
Kazakhstan produced a solid effort, it would have got them 2nd in Heat 1, but in Heat 2 they would have to wait and see if it would be enough. Colombia struggled home, but were quickly followed by Holland who took 2nd. EQUALLING Italy's time!
I disappointing USA came home and took what was then 5th, while Denmark were another diappointment, going slower than Kazakhstan and facing elimination. With only the supposed weaker teams left Italy and Holland looked set for victory, but today's shocks Wales, South Africa and Luxembourg gave it their all, Luxembourg doing best, equalling Russia for tied 3rd.
Czech Republic finished 10th, and as they went quicker than Poland and were also closer to the top time than Poland, they will qualify.

1 ITALY 33'54
2 HOLLAND s.t.
3 LUXEMBOURG + 4
4 RUSSIA s.t.
5 SOUTH AFRICA + 16
6 SPAIN + 20
7 UNITED STATES OF AMERICA + 26
8 WALES + 32
9 KAZAKHSTAN + 34
------------------------------
10 CZECH REPUBLIC + 38
-----------------------------
11 DENMARK + 47
12 SLOVENIA + 49
13 COLOMBIA + 51
14 UKRAINE + 58
15 ISLE OF MAN + 1'02
16 SERBIA + 1'17
17 LATVIA + 1'29
18 ESTONIA + 1'42
19 JAPAN + 2'00
20 1 NEUTRAL + 7'31

SportingNonsense
So, the finalists in order of their time:
ITALY 33'54
HOLLAND 33'54
LUXEMBOURG 33'58
RUSSIA 33'58
SOUTH AFRICA 34'20
FRANCE 34'23
SPAIN 34'24
USA 34'30
GERMANY 34'33
WALES 34'36
KAZAKHSTAN 34'38
CZECH REPUBLIC 34'42
AUSTRALIA 34'45
SWITZERLAND 34'57
ENGLAND 35'00
SCOTLAND 35'10
SWEDEN 35'15
BELGIUM 35'18
NEW ZEALAND 35'23
1 NEUTRAL

The top 12 times include all 10 from Heat B so you can presume that the conditions were different, therefore do not expect that to be the end result.

The Final

*** - Australia
** - Usa, Spain
* - Russia, Holland

SPain set an unconvincing marker, which was beaten comfortably by France - who yet again finished with just 5 riders.
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/tttfinal-a.png
With no rider higher than 72 in TT stat, I have no idea how France manage to go so quick. They set a new course record of 33'37. A time that would give them victory.
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/tttfinal-b.png
The Aussies got close to France, but Brad McGee, Mike Rogers and co could not beat their weaker opponents, missing out by 5 seconds - still managing to take 2nd though.
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/tttfinal-c.png
Fabian Cancellara hit the fron for Switzerland with 1km to go and a powerful drive led Switzerland to 3rd, making up for a disappointing heat.
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/tttfinal-d.png
4th, 5th and 6th were seperated by just 2 seconds, as Russia held off USA and Holland. Holland's fellow Heat 2 winner, Italy, finished 7th.
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/tttfinal-e.png
The British teams were disappointing in the final. only managing 9th (England), 14th (Scotland) and 15th (Wales), I wonder whether they could have won if they had rode as a joint team. Germany and Luxembourg were both expected to do well following their strong performances in their heats (2nd and tied 3rd respectively), but neither could break into the top 10, with Luxembourg 11th and Germany 13th.

1 FRANCE 33'37
2 AUSTRALIA + 5
3 SWITZERLAND + 7
4 RUSSIA + 11
5 UNITED STATES OF AMERICA + 12
6 HOLLAND + 13
7 ITALY + 17
8 SPAIN + 19
9 ENGLAND + 23
10 SOUTH AFRICA + 24
11 LUXEMBOURG s.t.
12 BELGIUM + 33
13 GERMANY + 35
14 SCOTLAND + 36
15 WALES + 37
16 KAZAKHSTAN + 38
17 NEW ZEALAND + 51
18 CZECH REPUBLIC + 54
19 SWEDEN + 58
20 1 NEUTRAL + 6'29

Coming up....
A long 72km Time Trial in Slovenia is coming up, before all the teams participate in either the Dauphine Libere of Tour de Suisse - as they compete for a place in Le Tour de France.

latarnik
arghhhh, shame shame that Polnad don't start in final..

SportingNonsense
Yeh, it was a shame - Czech Republic didnt exactly do much either, Ill put them in the 72km TT though. Also, would you likie Poland to ride the Tour de Suisse or the Dauphine?
