Making new career - Suggestions :)
katulen
Hey.

I wanted to make a new career and wanted to hear you guys for some suggestions for what team to pick or if custom team what riders to go for.

I kinda want to go for a PCT team or making a custom PCT team so i have to build the team up from llower brackets - however, everytime i try make a custom PCT team i end up with too few riders, compared to the salery i have and the amount of races i have as PCT team.

I also tend to pick way to many mountain riders, since i really like mountain/hillly stages the most, and therefor suffers on the more flat races/cobbles etc.

Any tips / suggestions to build a good PCT team? Smile

Well that's not necessarily a bad thing, ending up with too many mountain riders if that's what you enjoy in this game.

If you really like mountain/hily stages, build a climbing PCT team. You'll suffer on other races but good thing about PCT is you can pick and choose your calendar.

If you want an all-round team, pick an absolute leader (GC rider - hilly rider), an absolute sprinter, a big TT guy, a cobbler, some lieutenants and fill it up with domestiques. That's how I'd do it if I wanted an all round squad.

Im really struggling making this team. I make it, set up calender and aint satisfied with my team and therefor i went here to hopefully get some tips and suggestions from you guys Smile

Well I would like an allround squad, which perhaps is good at climbing Grin

The thing is, when i do the custom team making, i always feel like i do a too good squad..
And i have this feeling i wanna race the mountain stages, and the Grand tours, but i dont wanna be the biggest and best team in the peleton.. I wanna fight for the victories if you know what i mean, if it make any sense Grin
I also tend to pick the YOUNG riders, because i think they are talents etc., and i guess this isnt the best solutiion?

If i wanna builld a decent PCT team,
How many GC hope-riders should i pick and in what caliber ? avg stats/avg salery
How many lieutnants, sprinters etc ?

Maybe take one leader with MO in the 78-80 range, giving him a chance at top 5 a GT perhaps.
Than some other decent climbers, as stage hunters and lieutenants. Climbers from
75-77

It all depends on what you want to do, of course.
Or you could take an existing PCT team and see how that's evened out. Team Europcar, MTN-Qhubeka. Look at how their teams function and copy that a bit.

Picking young talents is a way to go. I mostly do this, too. Guys like Senechal are perfect in PCT and can develop into decent riders when you promote to WT.
Ewan, Coquard... All examples of riders who can fit in with a good PCT team, develop into better riders while your team grows, too.

Yeah I think im gonna have a look at those two teams. I kinda wanna pick MTN-Qhubeka, however I feel they are just a bit too weak with MJEINTES as the best.

But when i make custom team, i like Julian Alliphillipe - But does he even work as a possible GC contender and a good match for a PCT team?

And again, making the custom team you've only got 250.000 to spend, if you go above that, your team is suddenly a WT team. And Julian is a 50k rider, so i find it really hard to add up all together Grin

EDIT/ADD:

Also regards to the sponsor/team you choose as custom team - they want to have riders from the country, and that also sometimes is hard to make happen.. So is it a very important factor, that you have alot of riders from that specific country from which your sponsor/team is from?

To the sponsor: No, it's not a big deal. In my experience, good results are valued much higher than having riders from certain regions. Also, you can change the countries of interest with an editor if it turns out to be a problem. However, focusing on one or a few regions can increase the realism and the difficulty, and thus your enjoyment of the game.

From what I read, it seems like you have to decide what's more important to you: Having the riders you like (Alaphilippe) or having a somewhat realistic squad. If you want the latter, try to limit your top riders by creating categories like Ian suggested. For instance, you may have one climber in the 77-79 range, and three in the 75-76 range. Not more. Then you do the same for hills and sprinting.

Another possibility is to go by wage. If you have 250k to spend, you can divide them something like this:

1 Absolute leader - 40-50k
3 leaders - 25-30k
5 free roles 10-15k

If you focus on climbers, you can get a leader like Fuglsang, Gesink, maybe even Landa. The three co-leaders can be guys like Benoot, Bonifazio or Daniel Oss, depending on the direction you want to go (again, it could help you to focus on a certain region). Add some strong talent or experienced veterans and you'll have about 10 riders for 160-200k, which leaves plenty of room to fill the remaining 10-15 spots with some solid domestiques. In the end, you'll have a team that'll be strong enough to compete in WT races without the ambition to win every race it enters.

Ye sounds like a good idea, and illl try do so.

I just updated my DB to the dailyDB and alot of the prices has changed of the riders, which makes it even harder for me now to make the team i would llike to have, without it gets to OP. But when i add the riders i want as leaders, already there im a WT team Grin

So im rly struggling making this PCT team, and i guess i must realize i hhave to make a low tier WT team instead perhaps? Grin

EDIT: Btw ive noticed the word "domestiques" ... when you guys says that, you mean decent riders, whom is from the country of the team/sponsor ?

Probably a good idea. You would be promoted easily after your first PCT season anyway with the team you're building Wink

A domestique is a dedicated helper, a rider whose main task is to fetch bottles or lead at the front of the field to assist their leaders. They rarely get to ride for themselves. Nationality has nothing to do with that Wink

Ahh allrite Grin make sense.

And yeah i guess ur right.. Ill prolly get promoted first year with the team im trying to build anyway.. I just wanna make a team which is kinda "underdog" and "runner-up" if it makes sense.

But i guess i can do that as a WT as welll somehow.

If you want to do it on the world tour level then IAM are an almost perfect example of how strong they should be to be an "underdog" team. there's no big name stars there but they have riders capable of getting a decent result and they have riders that are young and still developing.

If you still want to be a PCT team then Bora Argon could be a good template for how strong your riders should be aswell as the previously mentioned teams.

Personally I would say pick some nationalities to form your core then get others around that to supplement where your core nations lack strength or depth.

I managed to assemble my PCT team, with Julian Alaphillippe as captain.
However i don't have enough french riders, so i have to sign a few of those throughout the career. Smile

You can make a pretty strong PCT team with just French riders.

Vichot, Roux and Gautier are good domestiques for Alaphilippe in the hills, you can also have Sicard, Jeannesson, Geniez, Gadret and Riblon in the mountains and are decent in the hills. Get Senechal and Gougeard in your team and within a year or two, you can ride for the wins in cobbled classics. Might be wrong, but pretty sure that you might have enough money for all of them and a couple of decent French riders and some youngsters like Latour and Elissonde who turn out pretty good.

With the new wave of French riders, France is pretty much the only country where you can have a squad full of riders from that country and be to win on all types of races.
- Pinot, Bardet and Barguil as GT riders
- Alaphilippe in the hilly classics, with Gallopin and Vuillermoz as very good replacements
- Senechal, Gougeard and Demare in the cobbled classics
- Coquard and Bouhanni in the sprints

katulen
Thanks alot Smile

I got Latour and yeah, i've already signed Geniez & Senechal.

I could use some better helpers for Alaphilippe in the hills.
Any other than Vichot, Roux & Gautier you could refer too as good helpers for Alaphilippe?

Do they have to be French? Gallopin and Vuillermoz would be the best but they might be too expensive for a Pro Conti team.
